BAH HUMBUG!
Would some one PLEASE tell me why I thought this would be a good pattern to use for a tree skirt?????????????????? I didn't even post yesterday, as I was the GRUMPIEST OLE BEAR in WI...this tree skirt. I've done more unsewing than sewing. I'm not geared to think BACKWARDS. Such good instuctions for cutting, such AWFUL instructions for piecing.
Anyway..I just "fixed" the boo-boo, put #2 back in the circle..and realize I'm going to have a tree "opening" the size of a PIZZA ! OK..what else can I do to screw this up???? I'm sitting here, wondering...hmmm, suppose I was suppose to put the smallest width of the 9 degree ruler at the top, instead of lining up the bottom of the ruler with the bottom???? Ya think???? This is exactly why I hate making things other people want me to make, and why I hate INSTRUCTIONS!!!

I love it! As for the gap could you not sew another small section to add to it? I am NOT a quilter so really don't know what I am talking about... but I do like the tree skirt.. want to make another one?? LOL
Well, take heart that when it is done it will be fabulous! It already looks fabulous! The wide opening is good for those beefier tree holders they sell now. You may be glad for that later. Yes, sometimes making things that are someone else's idea make me grumpy too, especially when they are no fun!
It does look great! Not sure why the opening ended up so big.
But this is kind of similar to the one I made myself years and years and years ago - only my wedges were way bigger so not as many - many 12 wedges total.
When the xmas stuff comes out finally I'll take a pic.
The tree skirt is really beautiful Finn. Does it just not match what you were "seeing" for the end project?
I'll be watching to see how it turns out.
Hugs and Aloha to soothe your frustrated feelings.

Thanks gals...you are all making me feel better..if that is possible??..yup, it seems to be possible..*G*
The error is in the placement of the ruler. I went back and looked at the drawings, since it didn't say anything about placement in the words. And sure enough, there was the little white ruler stickering off the BOTTOM of the strips. Hard to tell with a white ruler on a white page....akkkkkkkkkkeeeee!
The opening is 15"..just way too big no matter what. But I'll get it figured out..*G*
More power to you - I make what I want.... & I choose not to make "hard" stuff.
I'm sorry Finn...but you've got me LOL!!! Not at you...but just cuz I can soooo relate...to your frustration with the directions, etc. Oh, how I can relate!
I hope you feel better by now. Good luck...I know you'll be able to remedy your tree skirt. It WILL be gorgeous!

Guess what, when it's under the tree, it's gonna look great. (looks really fun and bright now) Just fidget it around so the bits you don't like are covered up. It's not a stand-alone piece but rather a part of the whole Christmasy look.
Finn, it's gorgeous! Is there any way you could machine sew or applique a circle in the middle, then just cut away what you want to be the opening? Sort of like putting a center on a Mariner's Compass? Just a thought. I love how it has turned out...
The size is fine- 15" would fit my tree stand so much better than the one I have. I am so sorry you are having a frustrating time with it. It is a real beauty, though. Very cool.
OH man...all that work and to be that frustrated. UGH...It is GORGEOUS though...and just tell DD#1 that the tree needs to be from Yellowstone National Forest! LOL

Well, since I always think backwards - how about making the RIGHT size of the skirt with a red or green or gold or patterned piece of fabric. Just cut a whole cloth, maybe? Then applique this beauty right on top of it, put trim around the edges, just like you had it planned for that size?
Looks like my $9.99 tree skirt from last year's bargain table in February is more of a bargain than I knew! LOL!
