The first sampler. Back in 1984, in a new community with the DH's new job, I was pretty lost. It was his "hometown", so he had no problem..the kids in school, had no problems..just me. So I signed up for a Sampler Class, taught locally. I met a few people, but what I learned is "I don't like making just one block". Back then it was ALL templates..a real pain to make and use accurately. I understand the tradition base..but I don't love it. There should be many more blocks in this quilt. Back then I didn't have an orphan block collection as yet..LOL. The poor Sunbonnet Sue never got finished at all ! I eventually joined up into this lap quilt. I did hand quilt it..in yet another "new" community, and it lives with me here in my new "solo now" community. Machine pieced, hand quilted. 1984-1987

Thanks for sharing the pics. I like samplers because I am not stuck making one block over and over and over and over!
Keep warm!

You know what - when I first started making quilts I made only samplers - and lately I've realized I don't hate samplers, but I do find them time consuming and don't desire to make them anymore!
Love the colors - pink and brown, like chocolate candy with a strawberry cream filling. Beautiful quilting from what I can see. Thanks for sharing.
Your Sampler is lovely, Finn. And the first one? Wow! Double the lovely.
Your hand quilting shows up beautifully.
I hear you! I think I did ONE also...nuff said, right! ;-)

I did a sampler once, yes it was my first quilt. It's fallen apart from use by now, but one was just enough for me! Finn, yours is just beautiful and as Darcie said, the quilting shows up perfectly! It's definitely a gem!
Finn, I love your pink and brown quilt. Your post encouraged me to dig out my first quilt and share a picture.
Samplers are fun but I haven't made one in years.

Your samplers are gorgeous! Your handquilting is beautiful. I don't like templates, either, and probably would not like making samplers if I had to use templates exclusively. I love how hosts of memories come flooding back to us when we look at certain quilts we've made. You sure have alot associated with your first sampler. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

You know finn I hae been thinking... you have way too many quilts and samplers so I will be happy to take some of them off your hands!!! LOL just kidding but you sure have some beautiful pieces.. you go girl!
Soo pretty Finn. I love pink and brown together and I think there is alot of those colors pictured. I fell in love with a pink and brown quilt once. I spent weeks piecing the top. But...the lady at the quilt store talked me into peach and blue fabric since they didn't have the other colors. Shame on me...I never finished it. Maybe when I grow up some more (I'll finish it) = ). what are you going to read after 'No Holly for Miss Quinn?. Now, I know its not polite to ask, so ignore that please. *hugs*
