Happy Halloween Everyone...from Ms. Ebby and Finn...*VBS* May your treats be many and your tricks, few. Just had to share again, this favorite place
that Ebby loves to sleep. It's only good when I am on the computer, however. But she looks adorable and I love the colors...*VBS*
The basic concept of a scrap bag is that it holds bits and pieces of this and that....all ready to use. And my Picasa 2 folder is one of my scrapbags. I dug in there today for these pictures to share with you.
This little goodie appeared back in August. The blocks are still stacked and need sizing and sewing. That's what is left on my October goals list. I may be able to get at them today...then I'd have completed(or at least worked on all
three of my goals for this month. The Broken Dishes will go on and on I'm sure.
These few blocks were made back in early December and then put away until later. Guess what tomorrow is??? Yup, later! I feel drawn to sew on them again. I can only make a limited number, because I need 5 3" squares of the red and cream Marcus Bros check for each square, and I have only "some" of it left in my stash. It's way past it's popularity of the late 80's and early 90's. I'll go as far as the fabric does...LOL. Not sure what else will come up on my November list, but I'm thinking about it.
TOMORROW...for Angie and Sprig...pictures of my stash....all who have seen it ... just skip on by..*VBS* Happy Haunting everyone! Posted by Picasa

Time travel........and today sure feels like a good day for doing just that. Every year I say "I wish they would just leave it(the clock) the same...one way or the
other. I really don't care much which it is, but I hate the changing back and forth.
I just don't think our bodies or meant for this sudden shift. Now that I'm retired, I can just leave the clocks the way they are for a few days. Gradually I'll switch them over. Once my body begins to get used to the earlier daylight and early dark.
I'm not sure I've ever missed posting on my blog as much as this past week. That's probably why my world is out of kilter...*VBS*
The quilt above(and I guess you can call it a quilt, it's 3 layers) is a very early 1980's creation. Using the very popular VIP printed panels...LOL. I cut the letters apart, used a red pindot for lattice and add the row of eyelet lace once we knew the baby was a girl. It's been so long I'm not sure if it's quilted or tied. The little one who received the quilt is now all grown up. I don't know if the quilt still exists or not, except in the picture. Those very early baby quilts weren't flannel backed. I began that with my second grandson born in 1996. Everyone loves the flannel backing, but it doesn't do much to reduce my stash of cottons.
Ebby and I continue to get acquainted. We have begun week 5, and she's much more daring now. She doesn't jump every time I move or cough, and is actually beginning to really explore the house in detail. She manages to be in the room and near where I am working, even if that means she has to leave the sheepskin she love, and come into the room where the computer is...*VBS*
We had a visitor again on Thursday evening, and like the week before, Ebby put on a full performance for my friend. We were tearing fabric strips, and Ebby loves that. Everyone is a foe to be jumped upon! She does very well at grabbing them in her teeth and taking off with them...LOL Hope everyone had a good weekend, and some sunshine on their shoulders. Posted by Picasa

Mary Elizabeth Moffett...born 1852, Jefferson Co. WI. She was my mom's grandma. The only grandchildren were the 3 boys and my mom, born to her youngest
daughter Lottie.
Back earlier in the month I showed you some of my brown and white English Ironstone collection. I promised I'd show you what inspired me to begin collecting it...*VBS* I'm quite late in doing so, but here it is..*S*
Great Grandma Mary's chamber pot. These sets had a large water pitcher and usually a covered slop jar with a handle. I don't know if she had the entire set or not. This is what survived and was given to me by Gram Lottie. When I was in my 20's and didn't know better, I had an English Ivy planted in it. Now it just lives at my house. Not sure if I showed you this little quilt or not. It's one from years ago, and the Minature Quilt magazine. Machine pieced, hand quilted.
And here is the small progress on the scrap triangles. I've gotten more blocks done, and a few more sets of 4 joined up. This isn't a final arrangement, I just pinned them to a quilt in my hall way for the picture. I've had a couple of busy days, and have a couple more and then it'll be all quiet around here for awhile and I can sew!! Posted by Picasa

Sunday Morning and a bit of sunshine peeking through the clouds. So much for a forecast of snow
flurries. I got the sewing machine to sew this morning. No amount or coaxing would make it work, so I decided to give that fly wheel a good twist!! And that did it. Now I can turn the sewn squares into these...*VBS*
The sewn blocks come out at 5 1/4th" so I'm sizing them to 5". I'll sew them together into blocks of 4. I'm gotten the 10 or 12 sets from yesterday sewn together now. And I'm planning on sending them through as leaders and enders. I'll keep cutting some of my older scraps into the 6.25" squares and double spliting them. Of course this is what I am in the mood to do....but I do have some promises to keep that are long overdue..so I'd better jump into those instead. Maybe a little play time won't hurt...*VBS*

Saturday night...and except for the wind, it's all quiet
my corner of the world. It's been a busy day. Errands to run, groceries to buy, prescriptions to fill.
I did manage to satisfy(almost)my urge to sew. I began sewing triangles together from the mish-mash of cut triangles. About 10 or 12 triangles into it, the machine made a burrrrring noise and stopped sewing. Usually that happens when the bobbin hits a glitch, or the thread breaks. So I turn it off and then turn it on again, and took out the bobbin and cleaned up the mess. Well, today the mess was having no part in co-operating. I did all the normal things, but the fly wheel still won't turn, and the power doesn't move anything. It's like it's frozen up. So I puttered a bit, made no head way and finally just pressed the pairs I had sewn and sorted some other stuff.
I'll give it another try tomorrow, and if that doesn't work, I'll pull out the very, very, very old Viking and see if it works. I gotta sew!!! And doesn't it just figure...that now when I am in the mood, the sewing machine isn't?
Ebby is doing quite well. We've finished the 3rd week and gradually she gets more comfortable with me. Today she's been checking out my face by putting her paws on my chest, and actually getting her face close to mine. She still doesn't want to be picked up and held, but we're getting closer to that too. So far not too many complains about the reduced amount of food, which has surprised me. I cut her back from what the other mama was feeding her, and the vet cut it back even more. The vet thought she'd really hate it and give me quite alot of grief, but so far she hasn't. There is a tiny bit of dry left the next morning, so she's not even finishing the 1/2 c. daily she now gets.
She is well muscled and quite active, and having me home all day helps that I think. She races around quite often, and like the fabric balls I roll for her. A friend stopped over Thursday evening, and Ebby even got up on the couch to smell of her and let herself be petted. She showed off her white bikini belly and was just plain silly...LOL.
For how black she is, what's funny is that on her belly she has 2 white spots, about 2" each in appropiate places, and a medium sized white V right where you'd need it..LOL Just makes me giggle, as there are no straps...a stringless bikini...too funny! Hope everyone had a great day..*S*
Saturday Morning...brings a partly cloudy sky. Sunshine would be nice for a change. But snow flurries are in the forecast.
This is a top I put together a few years ago. It's been laying in the UFO box because I can't decide what to do next. It's 43" X 43", which is an odd size. I don't think I have anymore of the black and white print..so I'm pretty limited to using borders. Any and all suggestions would be apprciated!!!! Now that I've photographed it, maybe something will occur to me...LOL. I am actually in the mood to sew this morning..and those broken dishes triangles are calling my name. But of course I have some weekend type errands to run before things close. Ebby wants to play, and Blogger and the web are running slow....what's a girl to do?????? *VBS*

Dibs and Dabs... and not much more...production, that is. I'm trying to build up some steam and get going on piecing again..but it's uphill. I love my fabric and love seeing all the wonderful projects everyone is working on..but stay mostly unmotivated myself. Probably thanks to the
newer medication I've begun. The top picture is two projects...the Broken Dishes blocks for a swap with Betsy. Since get two blocks from the 2 squares, we'll each keep one and swap one with each other. And the HST with black are going into my Row Quilt that I started from Betsy's scrap bin last week.
The second picture is a big pile of precut triangles for a different project. They are leftovers and really only good for more broken dishes blocks, because of the
way they are cut.
About 10 or so are already sewn, as shown here. I will work with them in becoming a donation quilt for WTIL. I'll need quite a few as they are about 4.5" or maybe 5"...time will tell.
Katie, at Mismatched Quilter asked me to let you all know her computer crashed again. She is getting a new one completely and will be back sometime in November...posting from Florida. So if you check her blog and there are no posts...that the reason, please don't forget her..*VBS*

On a rainy Wednesday, there was an old woman who got a new cat. The cat that came was as black as a bat! "No time have I for kittens, or such as that"...just one grown up furry black cat. The cat looked around, but no where did see, any kind of mice, and thought "how can this be?"
"My goal for the day, my purpose to be...I'm meant to catch mice...getting fed for free"
The woman in her hat, sat down for a 'think', "there must be something here, under the sink? She poked and she searched and looked high and low. But nothing was found, except for a bow. "This will never do", she said, "the poor cat needs something before going to bed". So she cooked up a custard, done to a T, & it worked out perfectly for Ebby and she...*VBS*.
The End.

Living With Ebby.....week 3....traveling together. We had our first 'vet' visit yesterday, and oh my!! What a fuss this little lady put up. She has very definite
opinions about the pet taxi. She found herself a 'secret' place to sleep(I'm cat savy so I knew she would) and no amount of coaxing or calling could budge her yesterday. I finally had to 'go in after her'....LOL What a riot that was!!! Took me about a half hour to finally corner her in the big bedroom and deposit her in the pet taxi. She promply attacked the woven door and kicked the sides a few times. Trust me, I checked and rechecked that door to make sure it had latched.
She traveled fairly quietly once we got moving. Surprisingly she was fairly easy to contain while at the vets, and once she realized we weren't going to let her off that table, she just hid her head under my arm. Apparently I'm preferable to a strange smelling vet. I had been pleased to take her to her previous vet, only to learn she hadn't been there since 2004. Guess it wasn't a big deal after all, but I liked the gal, and she is going to be Ebby dr. when we need her. Ebby was found to be in excellent health, very good teeth, clear ears, heart and lungs. And she got weighted(uhmmmm...small problem there) and got the 2 shots she needed. Smaller food portions are in her future. I'm sure they will be ample complaints about that!
The picture of her today was a spur of the moment snap last evening as I played cards before bedtime. The lime green tissue is from the picture frames and fabric bday presents. She seems to like the sound of it, right there next to my computer chair. She walked around and around on it, giving it a good smell, then decided it's a good place to sleep. Maybe it's her solution to being near me while I'm on the computer...LOL. She's there again, since I sat down here, so I'll just leave the tissue on the floor, it's not hurting anything.
I've been realizing she never learned the 'kitten games' we play with our cats as babies. The wiggling your finger under the sheet or blanket and them thinking it's a mouse and pouncing on it, over and over. Or the tying a piece of news paper or part of an envelope to a string and dragging it along the floor or tying it to a doorknob so it swings. And as I do these activities with her, she acts just like a kitten, which is so charming . Very alert and wanting to play but the game is up to me. She loves to be brushed, and that is helping us bond also.
I'm still not allowed to pick her up, but I do. And I hold her and pet her and talk to her for a few seconds longer each time. I choose the release time rather than letting her fight her way out of my arms. We almost had a nose touch yesterday....it's so close..*VBS* You know how important those nose touches are, right???
After a gorgeous day on Sunday, with temps in the low 70's, we are back to a rainy Monday and it is spilling over into Tuesday...showers mixed with snow. I'm hoping today will be a sewing day. I want to make up a few Broken Dishes towards the swap with Betsy, and maybe more of my new row by row quilt. Posted by Picasa

Rainy Days and Mondays don't get me down..*VBS* I've got Birthday Bonus loot to share. This really great picture of my youngest DS, and his two sons, ages 3 & 7.
This frame, and the one below, are painted wooden frames, made for me by the DS's roommate..*VBS* Call me lucky! Call me loved! Now to get a picture of Ebony that I can put in a frame! Isn't it cute??

And new fabric! 4 half yard pieces, each one picked out by one of them. The orange with ghosts from N., age 3
and the scary skeletons from D. age 7.

Scary things and coffins on orange from DS, and little witches and black cats (*VBS*) from the roommate. I got them washed up yesterday and I can now play with them. They also made me a birthday dinner and had cake with candles....wow!! What a great way to spend an afternoon....*VBS*
Ms Ebby has a vet appointment today, to get her caught up on her shots, and have a health check up. Teeth, etc. Luckily I can take her to the vet that knows her already, and it is a small animals only vet clinic. Around here most of the vets are primarily large(cows mostly) animal drs. And a woman too boot, all good, very good for me and Ms. Ebby. *VBS* Posted by Picasa

This and that.....I received this lovely ATC in the mail from a very dear friend, Darcie...she's October Child working with her hand dyed fabrics...Thank you so much for thinking of me Darcie, I love it!! It goes up on the BB in my sewing room where I can see it every day..*VBS*
And I thought since so many chickens have been popping up here in blogland, I'll show you mine. I've had her for 6 or 7 years...all the way back to when the pattern first
came out. Mine is a "banty" hen...done in the orange and rust coloration. Orginally the pattern instructed to use felt for the single layer beak, and the comb. There are several variations on that now, including prairie points. She contains millions of little white eggs(actually plastic pellets). Way back then the tail feathers were cut from 1/4" strips and tucked into the cross seam that forms her rear end.
Her is a view from the back end. She wasn't pleased about this particular shot of her...LOL Too much BEHIND...hehehe!
And this is the upside down view...full tail disclosure and her belly seam...she's quite angry with me, so I left her out in the front room til she cools down. Posted by Picasa

For Tracey in Australia....I posted this picture back in March of '06. This quilt is my tribute to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It's 6" 9 patches on point, set with a early 1900 reproduction fabric. It's a generous queen in size. It's machine pieced and long arm quilted.
In at least one of the her books, Pa refers to Laura as his little "red and brown bird". Her new coat was brown,as was her dress. She had a red hood and mittens to wear and the trim on her dress of red. That image stuck with me over all the years, and when I made this quilt...that was my inspiration. The 9 patches are browns and reds with a lighter background. It's totally scrappy...*VBS*

Having fun with Betsy's scraps.......this little pile of mostly blue is left overs and sized down parts from her latest quilt. In addition to that she gave me access to her 15 gallon rubbermaid tote, which was overflowing. Man oh man, did I have fun!!! Of course you can't do "justice" to a scrap bag or basket in one afternoon....so I do have an invitation to come back and play some more...*VBG*
When I got up there, she lives about 4 miles from me, way out in the country, we yakked...poured over the new Masten/Moran book, and had lunch. I decided I would be making "parts"....ala "The Parts Department". I took the lime green yardage with me, as it will be my nuetral in this quilt. I also took black
white prints, but never got that far.
I pulled out colors I like, has the pieces she liked tossed at me, and in general, had a ball!!! I cut and sliced and diced and sewed on her old Bernina.
She was busy making a strippy donation quilt from many old pastel strips. They had been trimmed off patchwork backing. And she did it "quilt as you go". By the time I left about 5, it was ready for her binding to go on. Above here are the 'beginning' of my new row quilt....definitely a parts department approach. And I brought home a few 'selected' scraps plus the bag of blue trimmings....lucky me!!!
We also discussed and agreed upon beginning a "trade you" project again. It may turn out to be much like what Gwen and Freddy did. I'm pushing for a whole stash of "parts"...made from scratch. She's not quite ready to commit to that one...LOL...but we are going to each be making broken dishes(starting with a 5" square) in brights and scrappy. Each pair of 5" sqs. sewn together will give us 2 broken dished blocks. We'll keep one and trade one...and then see what happens next. Should be alot of fun! Happy Friday the 13th everyone...watch out for black cats! Posted by Picasa

Broken Promises....you have to wonder about weathermen. I suppose I should be grateful they get it right part of the time. We have NO snow. It did spit
flurries yesterday, and several rain/snow squalls, but not a snowfall. Darn! Well, moving right along then, *VBS*, I did manage to get the churn dash blocks together. Still debating about a border or
not. It's an odd size, coming out at 43" X 51". Decisions, decisions. At least I sewed!
I'm heading up to friend Betsy's. I have an invitation to play in her scrap box..*G* I love Betsy's scraps!!!
And another picture of the demise of Wizard. And the Queen, Ms. Ebby. She sure does look good on that Laura Ingalls quilt, doesn't she? Posted by Picasa

***You Belong in Fall***
Intelligent, introspective, and quite expressive at times...You appreciate the changes in color, climate, and mood that fall bringsWhether you're carving wacky pumpkins or taking long drives, autumn is a favorite time of year for you

Tuesday evening....the labors of the day have been met, and the promised time of rest and relaxation is upon me as I write.
This was an odd kind of day. One of those that keeping dividing into more and more parts. Like peeling an onion, each layer removed reveals another to deal with. Those are not my best 'kind' of days.....luckily they don't come as often as they used to.
I had a belated birthday luncheon with old friends at noon, and we had such a nice visit. One gift of age is time to savor what you choose to do with your day. I got back home around 4, and a nap seemed in order, so I did that...*VBS*.
I had taken my finished rug, and the two that are in progress to show the gals. I left them rolled up in the back seat of the car when I got home. I had my arms full of packages and presents..*S*
I decided about 8 or so, to run out and get them from the car, so I could crochet. I have to confess that hearing the weather blurbs at timed intervals prompted my action. Believe it or not...we have S.N.O.W. in our overnight forecast! Quite a shock!!!

And as the weatherman said...'from 80 degrees to snow in less than 5 days'....it's quite a shock.
It sounds like my friend Darcie, in ND, will get it first. Northern MN and WI are expecting 6-8 inches. The band will be lighter as it comes further south....but my area is still in for everything from rain, freezing rain to 4+" of accumulation. Happy Oct. 11th apparently.
As I stood outside tonight, thinking about weather and looking at the darkened sky, I couldn't help but wonder about it all. That and be amazed.
The sky wasn't the midnight black of a clear star lite night. It was a soft velvety black, looking almost charcoal in places. No stars were visible, nor was the just-past-full moon. How dark our world seems without the stars and moon shining up there.

You learn early on, as a child, how much snow lightens and brightens the landscape. It's white, after all, and it will reflect even a tiny pinpoint of light. The brillance of it on a clear bright day hurts your eyes. In the dusk of evening, or a rising moon, you can see to walk a country road. Even those that have no street lights to aid you.
I have lived most of my 66 winters in a climate where snow is a reality. A year was spent in Biloxi, MS where nothing resembling snow happened...LOL, altho the pecans were great!! And another year(compliments of the USAF) was spent on the Oregon coastline. It snowed once. On the opposite side of the road from our little country home...*VBG* Guess that leaves me with about 63 years of snow, doesn't it?
I've heard people say that they don't miss snow at all, after moving to a year round warmer climate. But you know, I would miss snow. Somehow it's part of the reality of who I am. If I lived where snow didn't happen, I would miss it. I would feel deprived of the wonder of watching it drift down slow and soft and white, as if from heaven. Surely it must come from heaven. I'd miss what happens when Mother Nature decided to "stir things up" and sends a blizzard. It is a powerful and mighty force that can dump foot after foot of frozen moisture on you, and whip it up with winds that howl and moan around the buildings. That can pile the white stuff 20 feet or more high one day, and be all calm and sparkling white the next. Power like that is to be respected.

I guess what I am trying to say is that after all these years, the prospect of the first snow is still an "event". It creates an excitement. The child who loved snow stirs and awakens. It's the kind of anticipation where you peek out in the middle of the night to see if "it" is here yet. Where you sit with your mug of morning coffee and watch "it" happen and smile.
And when you sit at a computer, at night,in WI and talk about the years gone by and about the coming of snow.
Ebby...1 Wizard...0
The Wizard falls. After a long and successful reign as Supreme Ruler of the sewing room, the Wizard is bested by the new black cat. Down for the count, I think. And the dragon is

nowhere to be seen. Usually The Wizard is hard at work protecting my fabric and projects from inturders. His dragon Scorch is usually right by his side.
Poor Wizard, he never saw it coming. Neither did I. I turned from the computer and there he was, down on the floor with a big black cat sitting on him pulling his whiskers. I was totally surprised!!! This very shy, fearful, repressed black cat has a WILD side!
She pulled him about by his hair. She bit his nose and untied his waist cord. She even tried to de-slipper him. One foot is hanging off to the side now. She was brutal. You can see the fear in his eyes...his days of reigning supreme are over. I just hope we can find Scorch so The Wizard can catch a ride back to a more peaceful kingdom. Posted by Picasa

Do you remember....? The old saying that something is as hard to find as 'a black cat in a coal bin at midnight'? Very few coal bins still exist, except in the very oldest of houses and even those are probably no longer being used. Coal bins and coal shoots were a reality in my life back in the 1940's. And altho I never owned a black cat, I understood the saying. It applied.
What I have become aware of, as I try for a good picture of Ebby, is that not
much of a black cat shows up in photographs...LOL
She is not a furniture cat. I've only seen her on my couch once, checking out a package. She steers clear of my recliner unless I am in it, offering a warm lap for sleeping.
I decided to move this arm chair into my bedroom. No particular reason, just a new location. It's an old chair that I bought as a bride and refinished. I then learned how to re-upholster the cushions and I did. It's called a "spool" chair, and has drop leaf arms that you can prop up with a swing out board from underneath. Back in 1959, it cost us $7- It was the first piece of furniture we bought as newlyweds. It serves no real purpose in my life anymore, but somehow I just don't get rid of it.
What is interesting is that within minutes of my putting it in the bedroom, and adding the throw, Ebby decided I must have done that for her. So I guess that is the reason for the move...LOL. It sits about 3" from my computer chair and she keeps an eye on me as I type. It's probably good that she has decided it's her "designated" spot...*VBS*
I don't hink her being here is coincidence. I told my DD#1 on Friday or Sat. that I had decided I needed a pet. A cat, middle aged, female, spayed, declawed, full shots record, short haired and one that had lived with a woman. All pretty specific requirements. She thought it was a good idea, and that I should check with my local pet shelter.
On Monday, an email crossed her desk at work, telling of Ebony, age 6 or 7, timid with children, spayed, declawed and needing a good home with a woman. I told DD I was interested but was Ebony a short hair. Turns out she was. Does it get much better than that?
She has already turned out to be such a blessing. And I am so grateful for this special blessing. I don't believe it was coincidence that Ebony and I ended up together...*VBS*
I will keep trying for a good picture of her..LOL.. but no promises, 'at night, all cats are black', you know. Posted by Picasa

***You Are Apple Red***
You're never one to take life too seriously, and because of it, you're a ton of fun.And although you have a great sense of humor, you are never superficial.Deep and caring, you do like to get to the core of people - to understand them well. However, any probing you do is light hearted and fun, sometimes causing people to misjudge you.
What Color Red Are You?http://www.blogthings.com/whatcolorredareyouquiz/

Endings, beginnings and birthdays......

Endings and Beginnings...
it's that time again.
Me completing the 65th
year, and standing ready
to step out into #66. Every
year past the 52nd year has
been a 'good' year. My mom
had died at age 52, and I did
wonder if I would live longer
Well, I did. And I've overjoyed
at that fact. I'm even beginning to consider the
possibility that I could live into my 70's and 80's.
How's that for optimism???
Friend Betsy invited me to have supper with them last evening, and we were joined by another friend. It was a nice evening. They sang happy birthday to me, which I always find embarrasing, and put candles on my apple cake.
I didn't get to have the birthday celebration with my kids last Sunday, due to destructive nature of the 'bug' I had picked up. It was the only day most of them could have come to visit, so it's a bit depressing. But life goes on, and I have had so many lovely cards and birthday wishes from all of you great gals here in blogland. You truly make me feel special....*VBS* And I thank you for all the cards, wishes and great hugs.
I managed to sew for a little yesterday, not much of anything, just joining up the blocks into rows(webbing the top) but it's a start. I think I'll go in and begin the webbing across the rows now, and maybe will have the top ready to go by tomorrow. Then I might actually be able to cross ONE thing off my Sept. goals list...*VBS* Hope every one is having a great day!

Autumn...

The graceful dance that usually accompanies October is absent today. Instead there is some wild whirling dervish of a devil woman moaning and whistling and shaking her skirts. No gentle caresses for those tired tree limbs of summer, so nearly ready to release their burdern of leaves. But a whoop and a grab and a shake and they are not only down but sailing across the roads and sidewalks. Piling up, like so much hastily dumped trash.
I would have to say this devil woman is not a pretty sight. When she howls like this, and shakes the trees on nights when the moon is full, one feels safer with our heads under the covers.
It may only be the 7th of October, but from the look of the hardwood trees, November isn't going to have much to do when she gets here.
The dry summer and odd temperature changes seem to have robbed the maples of their glowing red color here in my part of WI. The yellow glows as boldly as possible, but after today very little will be left, except on the ground.
But of course that provides a whole new adventure for school children and small pets. Those dancing leaves have intrigued many a dog, cat or child....drifting down so lazily from above, only to whirl and shoot upward again.
The days of leaf houses in the school yard, and leaf piles to jump in seem long gone. No longer do I see fathers in their sweaters, leaning on the rake watching the slow progress of the burn pile as the dry leaves fill the autumn air with their own special odor.
No more do you see the blacken remains of the leaf pile next to the curbs the next morning.
Very few corn shocks grace the farm fields or any place else except compliments of a yard designer. A few corn stalks some pumpkins and indian corn..ala autumn.
Somehow I doubt there is even remotely a sense of adventure at being buried in a pile of maple leaves anymore. I should ask my grandsons about that, but I have a pretty good idea what the answer would be. I'm sure it's not that bleak everywhere, but to me it seems we are losing alot. When everything is mechanical and organized and tucked into a compartment, or needs special equipment to enhance it. Where did all the excitement of the season changing go to? No one stuffing leaves down your shirt anymore? There seemed to be no end to what we could think of and do with autumns 'leavings'.

Do you have "leaf" pictures? It seems to me that somewhere there is a picture of that little blond Finn sitting in the middle of a pile of leaves. Leaves in her hair and all...grinning like a goose...I'll have to see if I can find that picture..*VBS*

Wednesday, Oct. 4th.....I've got my eye on you..*VBS* Still not feeling much like myself, but I have scraped myself out of bed, and my recliner and will keep the appointment for my mamagram today. I haven't tried too hard to get pictures of Ebby, but here are a couple I snapped while sitting at the computer. It's that "touch with the paw" time. Thanks for all the suggestions as to what it might mean..LOL. We done the brushing and the feeding and made sure the water dish is full and the litter box is empty. I'm arranged things so she can sit and look out one of windows. I haven't gotten "it" yet, but I'll keep trying. Posted by Picasa
