this is the box of scraps that I brought home on Friday. It's many, many more than the
appearance indicates. They are fairly small pieces,
stacked fairly dense. Needless to say,Finn is as happy as a cat in a sawdust pile *VBG*
Here are 3 specific blocks that I will be cutting for:
This block is called Depression block. It's from Quilter Cache(http://quilterscache.com/). I made a few last April and knew it would be ongoing project. The second one is the "Whatever" block from Linda J's blog (http://catsnqlts2.blotspot.com/) I began my set of blocks with kids prints.
The third block is one that I had seen at Quiltville(I think). A simple block, made with HST's and a couple of squares. It's almost a Hovering Hawk, but not quite. I really like it for whatever reason, and
be making a whole quilt of them...*VBS* What I will be cutting is 2.5" squares, 2.5" X ? rectangles(lights only) and some 3" squares to be split to make triangles. I also will cut 4" squares to make triangles for the Depression blocks. I'd like to handle each of these scraps just once, so it's good to know what I am cutting for. Beyond that, I'll cut what is left "size appropiate" for other quilts from Quiltville( in progress). Including the very scrappy "everything goes" broken dishes. Those need a 6" square. I didn't get all my chores done yesterday, nor all the errands run. Sooooo today will hold some of "those" things, and if I get at them I just may be able to sew this afternoon.
I went to friend Jean's house last evening. We had supper and then I wrapped meat as she cut up the 2 deer her son had shot. I've never been involved in "processing" a deer. Can't say I mind having missed out on that...LOL, but, in friendship we often do things we don't know much about, and are richer for the time and the experience. We worked from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. The last packages were wrapped and in the freezer. The loose meat will go for processing into hamburger tomorrow, and as time allows, Jean will cut up the de-boned larger chunks into strips for jerky.
I do have to say, I really dreaded going and helping, but I had offered. So I went, knowing the blood wouldn't bother me, but the "smells" would. It was ok... she deliberately turned off the heat, so the kitchen was cool, and that helped at many levels, including smell.
And so, as of today, I can add "Deer Camp Experience" to my list of accomplishments.

Sounds like progress to me!
I had to laugh at your 'cat in a sawdust pile' comment - I don't know how my two would do in sawdust, but I bet it'd be interesting to watch!
That depression block looks like a good one to use some of the 4 inch squares I've been getting really cheap on eBay. Sometimes it's great to have some precut squares just appear in your mailbox!
Anticipating the smell of the meat is enough to bother my stomach! What a good friend you are.
Yeah, I could skip deer camp and not feel like I missed out on anything. You should have seen me the one time Emily caught some fish and the man said he would clean them for her but we had to watch - even that was gross!
I'm so glad I decided to "work my way around the rings". So many posts that I didn't know about! Maybe it's time to chuck bloglines?
Anyway, what a wonderful bunch of scrap quilts you are working on! Totally Finn and perfectly wonderful! I dream of the day I'll be able to do this - for now I must keep on keeping on with my UFO's. I can hardly wait to see your progress!
You are braver than I am. I don't deal with blood well, and I really don't deal well with the idea of shooting such beautiful creatures. I work really hard to forget where meat comes from - otherwise I know I'd be a vegetarian.
Great blocks. Your story on cutting meat brought back so many memories. That was one of my favorite things as a kid, helping my Mom cut up the meat. I looked forward to it every year and I now miss that time as an adult. My hubby is not a hunter and I don't know if I will ever get that oppurtunity again. Thank you.
Looks like some great projects in the pipeline!
Looks like your scraps will find new homes quickly. I love your choice of blocks.
Your scrap blocks are great. Don't you love creating something out of things others would throw away.
I think "deer camp" is an experience I am going to live without all my life. *vbg*
A turkey head is one thing, but the whole deer?! I don't think I'm ready for that. It's amazing how friends expose us to new things!
Jack of all trades! Deer processing - I believe I would add that to the list 'been there, done that, not again'.
Love the 3 blocks in progress, glad you found the lost scraps and have such great plans for them.
There's nothing as much fun as a rummage through a scrap box - have fun :)
