seems to be part of our basic instincts. Even if we don't recognize our actions, we reach out and gather things that mean something specific to us. I couldn't begin to tell you, why I might want an Andrew Wyeth painting and you might want VanGogh. Keeping with the folk art thread of yesterday, this blue bird speaks to me. He might be a penguin, or he might not. What ever he is, he
spoke to me in a small gallery in New Mexico. He was carved by a local artist who saw his piece of wood "this way". And now he lives with me.
Stranger still, is this little hard(molded) plastic doll from the 1950. As a child, many of us born in the 40's,50's and 60's had dollhouses. I remember these little pink "babies" with their white diaper and painted features. They came with a little hard plastic playpen or cradle..*VBS* We had alot of them in our house of 3 girls. None survived my growing up years. I saw this one on ebay and was instantly taken back to those warm summer days of playing in the screen porch with the dollhouse. Needless to say, I paid alot more for it than the 10 cents they used to cost...LOL. But I HAVE it !! And strangely enough, you couldn't get me to give it up. She needs a tiny plastic chair, which I have failed to find, as yet. The last item takes us back into
the world of needle and thread. It was a birthday gift from a dear friend. It's a trinket box, and I have old rings and pins inside. I love the beads and sequins, and it looks like Ebony..*S*
The pottery you see these few pieces sitting on was collected while living in Michigan.
My collection is large and fits 'my' description of folk art...maybe not yours. I'll keep giving you bits and pieces of things describe how I view the world. Cold,Cold,Cold here today...about 10 degrees.
Note to Forest Jane...LOL...no, I didn't put Ebby on the rug ....it was completely her idea. She poses well, doesn't she?????? *VBG*

I like your collectable train you are telling about now. Love the blue bird. It has so much to say. I heard you were having some cold weather up there. It just went over 80 degrees inside my home here and high humidity. Suppose to come down tomorrow. Hope so.
how fun to see these glimpses of what speaks to you Finn-thanks for sharing.
I well remember those little plastic dolls, playpens and highchairs we had for them. Hadn't thought of them in years! Thanks for the reminder..
I also love your beaded Ebony look a like :)
I like your recent posts. Makes me think about what I collect and keep, junk to someone else but a true treasure to me. Not worth a penny to anyone but priceless to me. I often think of how these items will be tossed when I die but to me today they give great memories and comfort. I lreally like the blue penguin and the Ebby look alike.
Oh, Finn, what fun things you are showing us this week! I've got to find the time to continue to read blogs now that my vacation is over. I go back to work tomorrow. :( All good things must come to an end, I guess!
It is interesting what we all collect.. :O)...
love your blue bird... never would have guessed meixco, more like south american art in many ways :-)
Oh Finn, I do enjoy your posts!!
Hi Finn, just catching up after a busy week. I love your rug, I haven't started..It is on the ever growing 'to-do' list. Thanks for showing us some of your folk art-I love how collections have a story, luv, tracey
I think I had one of those little dolls but I had forgotten totally about them. Which shows my age more - having had one of them or forgetting about it? Lol.
I love all the momentos and trinkets you have, especially the carved sculpture of the penguin...or whatever bird it is. Very very nice Finn!
Wow! I forgot all about my dollhouse and occupants. Mine was the metal type of doll house with (I think) 4 rooms? I had the baby with highchair and playpen. Thanks for the memories.
I'm so sorry that you're having a problem and pain with your eyes. Have you thought about just surfing the photos of our blogs ... skipping the words. All my photos are clickable to give you nice big easy to see pictures. Take care, my weblog friend.
I remember the little pink babies. I like your funny bird and he does sort of look like a penguin to me. I love reading about the glimpses of your past...I was a 44 baby so our toys were much the same.
I'm so sorry that you are having trouble with your eyes again.
I think you need a Hug,
Sandy
