Old Man Winter is still blasting his way across the Heartland. Putting us in the deep freeze that normally accompanies Jan, Feb and March. We got a dusting of snow(less than an inch) overnight, and today the winds are whipping it around and into piles.
My folk art piece today is another that I bought in New Mexico, at the Santa Clara Pueblo during a sun festival. The characters are no doubt part of the native american culture, but feel and look Mayan to me. I love the humor of the piece and as well as the many colors. It's a fairly raw wool, meaning it still has bits of straw or other weedy material caught in the stitches. I suppose it's meant to be a wall hanging, but I haven't hung it, as yet. That day at the Pueblo we were able to buy the outdoor oven baked flat bread, and local pottery vs. tourist pottery...it was a lot of fun to be there, but somehow felt invasive of their homes and culture. I had that same feeling at Taos Pueblo. At that time, back in 1990, the economy of Taos, and much of New Mexico wasn't as good as it has become. I enjoyed being there very much, and could easily live in Santa Fe...well, if I could AFFORD it.. an older adobe of about 800 sq. feet was selling for about $101,000. at that time. Nef sed!
I do(sort of) want to add a personal note here. Over the past months, I've been able to get to most of the blogs I read every day or two. I really, really like doing that, seeing what you ALL are doing, adding comfort where I can, support and an interest in what you are doing. Gradually over the past few weeks(or months) I find I am just not able to "get there" as I once did. It's not for lack of interest or that you've been replaced..it's my eyes. They have been giving me more and more trouble. It's not an "all or nothing" situation, but they have become what I call "troublesome"...like naughty children. I am very grateful for the vision I have, but wouldn't mind seeing a tat better and without the pain. It's pretty complicated and it's not something that can be "fixed"...just managed.
So if I seem more absent than usual, and I know I have been, it's not because I don't care about you...each of you...*VBS*...are very special to me. Hugs, Finn

Oh, Finn, so sorry to hear about the continuing eye problems. no fun at all, but you've got a great attitude. I love the wallhanging - great colors. Just imagine how much that 800 sq ft in Santa Fe would be worth now...
Finn (((((((((HUGS)))))))))) I am so sorry to hear your eyes cause you pain...You have been so sweet to help me get my blog set up!! Not for one nanno second would anyone think you weren't interested :O)... You take care of your eyes and do what you need to do for comfort!!!! Thats what I know everyone would want you to do!!!!
So sorry to hear of your eye problems - and no-one could possibly think you were ignoring us - hey, half of us wouldn't be doing this if it weren't for you!
Take care and look after yourself.
Fiona
Dear Finn -- Sending you hugs across the miles. Don't fret over us in blogger land ... we know how much you care. You must take care of your precious eyesight. You have helped so many, with me feeling first in line, get a good start here. I couldn't for one moment think you didn't care.
Hugs,
Libby
Finn, I love the things you are sharing with us -- the blue bird, the baby doll, etc. It is interesting, the things that catch our eyes and ask to come home with us...
I'm so sorry to hear about your continued eye problems. Even an occasional visit is a welcome visit. Please take care of yourself!
Finn, take care of yourself and your eyes! Rest them and yourself. The megahertz flickering of a computer screen really adds to eyestrain. I know. Take care
Oh Finn, you know we all wish we could find a magic cure-all to send you for your eyes. But there isn't such a thing, so all we can send you is our love, caring, cyber-hugs, and positive thoughts for your well being. You have given so many of us so much, and we are all so grateful to you.
I will get your surprise off in the mail to you as soon as I can find it. Right now it is eluding me. When I get all the Christmas stuff out I'll look around the attic - I think it may be hiding there.
Dear Finn...sending you hugs, comforting thoughts...you take care of yourself and Ebby...you mean way too much to all of us for any of us to think you were ignoring us. Take care...Carol
I'm sure the brightness of the new snow doesn't help the pain any either.... Continue to rest them, while it wont fix, and we miss hearing from you as much, it does help I'm sure....
Oh Finn, I adore your folk art collection, the blue bird is wonderful, I would have bought him too.
He looks like he's been traveling a long way, haven't we all. I'm so sorry to hear you continue to have eye problems, life does get hard at times. Nancy in MT
Finn, you're very special to us too. So don't worry about not visiting as often as you did, we're just glad to know that you still visit. And don't worry...I'll be visiting your blog. Prayers are going up for eyes, for healing and for a release from your pain.
As you are very special to me....
Eyesight is something so precious. Just do what you need to do to take care of it..
I enjoy reading what you post!
Visit (or don't) as you're able!...
((hugs))
Finn, I would much rather read your wonderful blog than have you read mine every time I post a new blog. I love your writing. You use words so eloquently. Thanks for sharing with us.
My word, a lot of people are thinking of you, including me. No problem with your lack of visiting. Everyone has their days. Good luck with the eye situation and take care.
BTW, I just put up a post of a Karen Stone Star I'm doing, and my pallette is exactly same as your wall hanging! It's beautiful. Good taste, I guess! LOL
Stay warm.
Dearly treasured Finn, as all have said above...what you give to all of us who read your posts is more than enough of a gift of the value of the written word. Whether you have 'perfect' physical vision or not, you have the deepest abilities of all...you 'see' to the very heart of things with both spirit and soul. A reader has only to read one post of yours and they feel such warmth and such honesty that they are just drawn back to read again and again. Never doubt your true value to all who stop by for a visit...ever! You have true sight and a connection of the heart to all of us!
Finn, BIG hugs to you!!
I hope the management allows you to see as well as you can.
I have been on hols, & had such a great time, I feel soooo blessed.
That's what is so nice about blogging. We can visit...and know what's going on with each other so very easily. I do pray that your vision will keep up with the rest of you...for you are one go-getter, dear friend!
Love your Pueblo art. Oh the colors! I would have never guessed it to be wool...but it makes total sense. My Mom used to receive a subscription to an AZ magazine...and a woolen artist was featured once. Very interesting lifestyle.
Hugs to you, Finn!
I'm so sorry to hear of your continued eye problems. Computers aren't good for the best of eyes. Since I work on them every day I have had to start wearing reading glasses (of course it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that I am getting older :cO ). I completely understand your not being able to visit.
I love your collection of folk art. It's so much more fun to have a home were you are surrounded with an eclectic collection of things that mean something to you, than to have an expensively designed, sterile house. Much more interesting to visit too. :oD
Sorry about your eyes. Big hugs. You'll be in my prayers. You are such an encouragement. I feel this must be some form of glucoma.. Use your drops and we will be happy to continue reading your blog and encouraging you along this journey of life.
