Stars for Nevaeh...

I've been reading blogs for the past few minutes and there is a strong current of unrest in most of them tonight. So I'm following Tonya's good example and show you a happy quilt. How a quilt comes to "be" with the person it was intended for, when it wasn't intended, amuses me. Like most quilters I'm often compelled to make a quilt that is in my head, or inspired by a certain piece of fabric, and more often lately as a means to use my stash. We won't assign any percentages to those categories...ok??? *VBG*
This star quilt was made in the lazy days of summer, with no one in mind. I liked the center of the stars fabric..that cheddary goldie color with ladybugs on it. It lay around for awhile and one day the red and blue(sort of a periwinkle) jumped out at me, and I began cutting and sewing.
It was back when I was just starting to use perle cotton for quilting, so that's how this one was finished.
All my kids are adopted, and some have established connections with birth family, so weddings, cousins and babies pop in unexpectedly. Oldest daughter called in a panic, she was to meet up with a birth cousin from Hawaii for the first time, and it seems he was married and had a young daughter. And "oh my", she had given baby quilts to other birth cousins and what would she do? The child was already 3 or 4 yrs, a much desired child, who parents had reversedthe letters in HEAVEN, and called her Nevaeh. I told her it really doesn't matter what the age of the child , a snuggle quilt is a snuggle quilt. And I just happened to have one ready to go. Normally I don't hand quilt the ones that go beyond immediate family. But this wasn't the first time it happened that a quilt was needed and I had one to give. If there is a place for it, it goes, quilted or tied.
She met up with the "new" cousins, Nevaeh adored the quilt, and beamed from ear to ear at getting an unexpected present. And I know if daughter #1 ever goes to Hawaii she'll have a place to stay *VBS* And so you see, even when it's not made with intention, it still works out as it should. Who are we kidding?? It's all written in the stars.
