Still Thursday...I remember that I have occasionally mentioned my "basting" frame. And since I've managed to get two baby quilts tied this past week, I thought I'd show you what I use. This was made for me by my Dad, the fall and winter of 1988. I had seen one similar to it, and it was a wonderful height for me to baste in, as I am fairly tall. I borrowed one of the stands for him to measure, and he took it from there. He was sure I wanted it "set" too high, so he made the pieces that hold the long boards in place adjustable. It's still a perfect height for me, sorry Dad. The longer boards go on the bottom, and the shorter ones across. They are held together with C- clamps. Pillow ticking is stapled or tacked to each board on one side, so you can pin the backing to it. Obviously the frame is able to hold the boards out at full length. The quilt we are basting here, as part of a class I taught, is nearly all basted, and was a small quilt to begin with. You unclamp and "roll" as you baste or tie. It's not meant to quilt in. I realize this is very low "tech" in today's world of iron on batting and basting spray, curved safety pins, and plastic tacs...LOL..but it suits me, and I suspect for tying baby quilts or basting a large quilt, it will always suit me. Which one am I...???? Why, the one in the red shirt, of course..*VBG*

A basting frame .. what a good idea! That's surely a lot better than getting on the floor to baste large quilts and looks like a great solution for tying them!

So you teach! no wondor your quilts are so beautiful. I have an antique quilting frame and used it twice. I could use a class from you I'm sure...and I didn't know there was such a thing as iron on batting...no kidding! I knew which one you were in the picture =).
