And here it is, mystery solved. It's kind of neat, but nothing I would choose to piece. Right now all the in the ditch hand quilting is done, I still need to quilt the border. As you can see, the basting threads are still in there. This one is on my UFO list to finish this year. Posted by Picasa

Hi Finn! Just getting myself up and running again today. The gallery of scrappy quilts you've been sharing is wonderful!

Finn, I agree with you. I like it but yet there is something about it that I don't like. I have been noticing that with mystry quilts. I want to do one but yet they don't seem to be big enough to do anything with. I don't believe it is an orphan quilt but maybe just the black sheep.

I like it, too, Finn.

It's rich looking. And the quality of work always amazes me.

Maybe it's the optical illusion of the grid being in front of the diamond. It almost moves. (Or it might just be me. I'm still on my first cup of coffee and I'm not wearing my glasses.)

This type of project is what scares me about guilds. I have no interest in making a pattern that everyone is making. There's no way I want to take time making something that someone else already thought of.

Do they have a corner at guild meetings for people who don't play well with others? ;)

Hugs.

BEAUTIFUL FABRICS but a good example of why I don't often do mysteries. For that matter I rarely do quilts with just a few fabrics. They're "nice" but just don't DO anything for me. Of course there are probably a lot of people who find my wildly scrappy quilts to be jarring.

I have to admit I would have probably donated this to one of the groups who would have finished it for charity rather than put the effort into handquilting it as you are.

I do like the effect of the lattice overlaying the diamond pattern but I would have machine quilted it for speed. The handquilting will be relaxing and good practice though - should do that myself on some quilts I'm not in love with. I have started and abandoned several mysteries and won't do any more. I did finish one last week (Ningaloo Blooming from teenas.com) and love it, but again, it's only got 4 colours.

I like it! I figure all those quilts I do that I end up not liking, I will lay them out the next time the kids come down and let them have at it. If there's anything left -- there's always a charity that will take it -- no matter the size!

It's beautiful (esp if it really is red and purple like it looks on my monitor) but not you. Not scrappy and fun. I feel the exact same way you do about mystery quilt. The first one I ever did never even made it to the block stage. "I would never have picked this pattern and certainly not these colors..." so why keep going.
A Maverick Mystery Quilt would have us all playing with different blocks with all sorts of scraps. More like orphans or Bonnie's Puss in the Corner crazy quilt. We'd each end up with COMPLETELY different quilts.

It's neat! The colors are great, I am a big fan of purple and red, even before the red hat ladies came about. I have done a few mysteries in the past and they generally don't refect me either, but the process is fun....

I think it looks too planned though, there isn't any spontanaity to it, and you are definately not a cooky cutter follow the pattern exactly quilter. So this one basically had your hands tied :c)
