The mystery quilt shown below and answers to questions: It was a workshop project, we didn't get to "choose". Yes, the red and purple really are just like the picture. The quilting is DONE except for the black border(studid, I admit..but there are times we do stupid things..I'm no exception). Machine quilting it, or looking at it with 2006 vision wasn't an option. (Kind of like you can't go back and change who you voted for in the last election). This was my first mystery quilt, NO, I don't like them and NO, I wouldn't agree to do one again..workshop or no workshop. It's distrurbing how much "ado about nothing" this pattern is, and why anyone would design such an odd size piece. No matter what colors I used, it strike me as a quilt that is good for about NOTHING! And if you find you want to say, "I don't make quilts I don't like", NEVER take a mystery workshop.

Given how your first mystery quilt turned out, I can understand the "never" do another one. I've done a couple of mystery quilts, and have learned to only use fabric I like, from my stash. That way I don't feel "cheated" -- I haven't bought yardage, I've used up stash, and I've enjoyed the process and handling fabric I like. The end products are a challenge though...
I couldn't agree more. I only "do" mysteries after I have seen the results....
BTW I cut into the witches undies, tehy are going into at least 5 quilts - 4 of mine (The Calico Cat holds the explaination) and 1 for my girlfriend. She liked them almost more that me, so I had to share. Thanks again!
I'm with you, Finn! I did one mystery quilt and HATED it...the whole experience! It's just not fun to me. I want to KNOW what kind of design I'm working on because, to me, that dictates the fabric choices. Nope...not doing another mystery quilt...but yours turned out nice!
Finn, I still don't know why you don't like it. The colors and design are antique looking to me.
Finn,
It is different...but neat. I have done a few mysteries also, the best being from one of my favorite local teachers from MN. I could trust hers!
Thanks for sharing!
Hugs
Laurie
