A recent finish..*S* Everything is scrap except the outer border..I buy yards andyards of that yellow checked P&B. This is the type of baby quilt I keep on hand. Most often these single Irish Chains, if I have enough background for the setting blocks, sometimes I make the 6.5" quick version of bow ties. Since I back ALL the baby quilts with kids flannel, and since I don't have a long arm machine, I tie these, 4 corners and center...seems to work just fine. I do bind as usual, as I don't care for the pillowcase turn look. I use a 5 block by 6 blocks set. With a border or two, they come out to matching a single width of flannel. I figure it takes about 1.5 yards of flannel for each backing. Posted by Picasa

cute! what a snuggly sounding baby quilt..you could tack with your machine in leiu of tying if you wished..might go a bit faster if you were in a hurry-just depends on the look you like. I too prefer "real" bindings on all quilts I make-personal preference!
thanks again for another photo! hugs

I have one that I think I will just do a 'quick and dirty' on ... sew it as if it is a pot holder, flip, stitch edges and tie.
My quilt helper at the store said the edges would wear quicker but I rather doubt any quilt I made would be a 'lifelong' companion quilt.
Love the pics ...

I too prefer quilts that are traditionally bound, but I HATE the reqired hand sewing on the one side... If I'm looking for fast and done, there's nothing as effective as a knife edge -- though pressing the edge after turning it right side out does take a few minutes....
