Several of you asked questions about my star blocks. This was my inspiration. It is a block that Laurie posted on Jan. 9, 2006. I knew I had the graduation quilt obligation coming up, and when I saw this star of hers, I knew I had found my pattern for one of them. I'm not sure where Laurie got her inspiration, but she was mine..*VBS* I did modify it in a couple of ways...focus fabric center, the position of the star points to be more like a friendship star and solid background color instead of HST's in the 4 corners. It is an easy block to work with, based on 12". As to how many I need to make? DD#1 is coming for supper tonight, and I should have a better idea if I need 16 or 20, plus lattice and border. And since my memory has failed me again, between re-visiting Laurie blog and here, I've got to go back and find her URL...sorry OK..got it
http://gottaquilt.blogspot.com/ Her archives have sunk to the bottom, but they are there..*VBS* Thank you for inspiring me Laurie *VBS*

I like hers too..but I like your more simplified version and especially for kids or teens...with the main novelty or focus fabrics.
I have a book called 2 Block Quilts..I think.. and I wonder how this block would work paired with some other blocks?? I might have to open up the EQ and see what I can draw up. Humm...now you have me thinking!!
Great star.
I love the focus fabrics as star centers, too.
Your quilt is going to be beautiful.

OMG Finn,
I clicked on your blog and thought...THAT'S MY BLOCK! OR at least I THINK it's my block! Gosh, Finn made one just like it! Then I read your blog! It looks to me like all you did is turn those sections of the block to get the friendship star going. Am I right?
Thanks for the compliments...my inspiration was from Judy Hopkins "Around the Block" book. Here's a link to it thru Amazon.

She also has "Around the Block Again" that is mentioned in this link.
Hugs

our fellow quilters truly come to our rescue in the inspiration department! nice of you to give Laurie credit Finn...we just never know what something we post may trickle down and become next...
Finn I"ve been loving those stars but wow! Do I like Laurie's - no wonder it was your inspiration. I"m not positive, but I've seen star blocks like those I believe in an old Judy Martin book. Oh wait - I see Lauries comment, no it was in Judy Hopkin's books Around the Block - Oh I LOVE those books! Do you have them - you would go nuts, so many ideas and sizes!
I love the handquilting you did in Faded Glory -- sooo special. It merited handquilting because of all the love you poured into it and look how long it has lasted! Your nine-patch is looking great. Looking forward to seeing how you finish it up. I LOVE the cellphone friendship star block. How cool is that! Have a special Mother's Day, Finn :)
