Since Star Wars are still raging on at my house, here's one of my vintage tops to look at. It's no great beauty, but the fabrics are fun. I think she put that navy with stars in every single plate...LOL I bought this about 15 or 20 years ago when you could still buy fairly nice unfinished tops for about $20 or $25. That rarely happens these days. I had thought I would get this top basted up and hand quilt it.....but as you can see, it's still unfinished. See second post for the explaination.....and have a great quilty day!!!

Oh what a great top for $20! Your right, you just can't find those anymore!
I would take the path of least resistance and cut the blocks apart ridding it and you of the salvage. As much as I love the pink...I would put in some sashing (the navy perhaps) and maybe some cornerstones to brighten it back up (yellow or all differnt? or a pink print?) It is very fun though and should make you happy while working on it!

I love "rescued" things. I wonder if the puckering was the reason it wasn't finished?
Part of me would want to leave it as it is just to honor the original maker. Part of me can see the wisdom of cutting the blocks and adding sashing.
It'll be fun to see what you do.

I agree with Siobhan - cut it down to a sensible block size but then how about sashing it totally at random with a variety of fabrics to match those in the plates (or similar if you can't get the same) and then using up the cut off pink for the cornerstones
I agree too. Cut the thing up! Make the blocks smaller and insert some sashing. I like the idea of dark blues and finding some fabrics close to what she used for the corner stones.
It's a cool quilt though!
Yes, I think making those blocks smaller to rid yourself of the selvege would be a good idea and scrappy sashing to make the whole thing snazzier!
Ooh! I'd love quilting those open spaces! the quilting is the best part!
What I do with old quilt tops that I don't want to quilt,(I have about a dozen or more), I rotate them as table cloths on my kitchen table, & I protect them from spills with clear vinyl.
