Sunday's Selection...another piece from the Past, and my scrap bag of possibilities. I seriously wonder if this block was a childs practice block. It's a block gone wrong for sure. At the left side it measures 15" plus. At the right, it measures just under 13". It reminds me of a very old quilt I saw in a book, down with bear paw blocks. Maybe be 20 or 24 blocks and of them all, only ONE had the "claws" in the correct position. Didn't stop the quiltmaker from putting it together as a quilt tho....LOL. Soooo? Have you begun to guess what Finn is up to????

oh, another challenging block to play with-I like that circle fabric too and would agree, a practice block where the message would be-the importance of measuring! Are you going to make a top with these old blocks?
Oh, all these vintage blocks in dark fabrics are fascinating. I don't know which I'm enjoying more: the fabrics or the way you're showing us the quirks of workmanship. I can just imagine someone long ago stitching these up.

I love reading your blog. Really makes me wonder what you are like in person. I cannot even begin to guess what you are up to! (other than possibly trying to figure out how to make all of these blocks fit together). I look forward to the next few "clues" to see what it is you are doing.
And thanks for your suggestion on my BOM. I had been thinking of how to make this quilt "mine" and the pre printed blocks were one of the things I was looking at. I think when I go pick up June's block, I may pick up some extra of the gold fabric and play with some applique in there. I have lots of scraps from the 5 blocks I've done so far, surely I can think of something to put in there! Blogging is inspirational, that's for sure.
Oh boy, I LOVE this block. Even if it is wonky! Just makes it a bigger challenge. Yes, I can guess what you are up to, and I can't wait to see the next "installment!
I'm wondering where you found them all. Were they in some trunk in an attic somewhere? A family member's legacy? Bought at an auction?
So are you going to try to square this one up somehow?
It doesn't need to be squared up- just very carefully sashed.
Hmmmm, making an orphan quilt? That's assuming the blocks are in good enough condition to work with. Remaking them???
Finn you are a cheeky one! I like this block. What's two inches? LOL
Are you going to make a pretty basket quilt? They all look basket-y to me :)
I agree with all the guesses that you might take these all and make a top!?
I agree with tonya, just sash the block and leave it as is...wonky!
Oh I'm enjoying all those old blocks and fabrics you've posted! They are so much fun to look at!
I love the ties to our past. So little writen in words about women who lived then. Thank goodness for the bits of their lives, like these blocks, that they left us. Keep telling us more!
