Patchwork Project Possibilities and old favorites...

Excitement stirring at the sight of a bag of multicolored scraps. Is it the fabric, the color, or the possibilities? Maybe all 3? Under my skin, like a poke from a needle, a spark that sends a ripple of "maybe" or "what ifs" all through me. That spark jumped from a pile of scraps and leftovers straight to my eyes and then my brain. That doesn't always happen with bolts of fabric in the shop, or the stacks of stash, but show me your scrap bin and I'm in heaven.
With dozens of projects in progress, a bag of trimming from flannel backings, and a few left over 9 patches 'got me' this weekend. Along with everything else, I let myself play. Not necessarily the best choice, but a happy one...*VBS* I made about 20 crumb squares that trim to 6.5". I'm not sure the 9 patches will stay, or maybe they will get modified to be more liberated...time will tell.
And play time extended over into Monday when, totally unprovoked, I decided to 'dump out' a tin of wooden spools and see what was in that tin...LOL I must say I do LOVE the picture I snapped. This one would work for a jigsaw puzzle or greeting card. What great colors and excitemtnt they create
against my crocheted rug! Isn't it wonderful that every once in a while we manage to get a really GOOD picture of something??

Back when mercerized cotton thread shone like silk!

Oh my stars! I'm gonna have the vapors - I'm such a thread junkie - all those spools are better than candy!!

I don't care how many hundreds of yards of fabric I might have it's the scraps that make me the happiest. :-) I like the 9-patches in there with the crumb blocks but whatever you end up I'm sure will be another great "Finn" quilt. :-)

LOVE that thread picture. Yes it would make a GREAT jigsaw puzzle. I'd buy it.

That thread picture is just awesome...it could just not be much prettier. I can feel your excitement and that is such a good thing :)

Like Nancy, I'd buy the puzzle of the thread picture. Did you see the mat I crocheted using stretch lace hemming tape. I used your rug crochet idea in a different way.

Wonderful array of colors!! I have a "thing" for old wooden spools. And, yes, what a great puzzle that would make!!! Just not TOO many pieces...

Those spools are wonderful. I have some like that, from my Mum's treasures, & I love the colours. Your crochet rug sets it all off.

There's just nothing like playing with color from a fresh box of crayolas, to a packet of wildflower seed mix, to a tin of vintage threads. Check out zigzone.com - you can load your picture and make a computer puzzle right online *s*

The spools of thread picture is beautiful. I think you have the perfect yellow thread for a sunflower class I'm doing at the weekend - I really must go shopping for thelast few bits and pieces.

There's something about the sheen on those threads on your crochet rug - they look like multi-coloured pearls - real eye-candy!

Finn,
I'm sorry it's been so long-it has been an interesting spring.
I love reading your posts, they take me to a gentler time. I remember the wooden spools all around my Mom's sewing machine.

Isn't it wonderful that we can still be amazed at the beauty of the simple things about us. How about an enlarged framed pic for your new sewing room?

I like where you are going with the nine patches and liberated blocks. I, too, have a dozen or so quilts in progress.

me too, I love the 9-patches in there with the more liberated blocks. Having them sprinkled through make them kind of like the landmarks in a small town and throughout the countryside -- the ones that everyone knows about and uses for giving directions, even if they were long ago demolished!

I can't believe it!!! I have scraps of some of those SAME flannels!!! I thought they were so old no-one would have them anymore! The little pink pigs on turquoise... and the white in your blue and white 9-patch shows eveidence of the cutest duck print I've ever seen that I have a very limited amount of (reminds me of the kinds of ducks you'd see from the decade I was born!). And of course I have/had that bright little plaid in the upper right corner 9-patch... Truly, Finn, we are kindred spirits ;- )

I am interested in learning how to make the rugs in your pictures. Can you tell me where to get instructions.
Thanks
