It's pretty, you can make it in any size you'd like or have scraps to fit. It's a 16 patch with borders.
Can you see on this one that it's not an true 8 pointed star? Here are the cutting directions: You need 3 fabrics of good contrast..not much of each.
Cut four (4) 4.5" light squares, and four (4) 4 7/8"(easier to cut 5") light squares.Split the 4.7/8" squares once diagonally to equal 8 triangles.
Cut four(4) 4 7/8" green(or your choice) squares, split them once diagonally.
Cut four(4) 4 7/8"red squares, split them once diagonally. You've now got 4 light squares, 8 light triangles, 8 green triangles and 8 red triangles. Make 4 sets of light/red HST and 4 sets of light/green triangles. Sew the remaining colored triangles to each other, making 4 sets red/green HST. Lay them out as in the picture, matching red to red and green to green. It's incredibly easy...honest! This center part will be about a 16" square using the 4.5" pieces. I add a 3" border bringing the size to about 21". Hollar if you need more help than this *VBS* Believe it or not, this was 'taught' as a bed size quilt...almost unbelievable that someone would use 28 pieces to make an entire quilt top...LOL

Great minds think alike! I chose reds with green accents and you have greens with red accents for Bonnie's quilt. Doesn't it sound fun?
WOW there's alot of us thinking Christmas colors - I have a bright red witha dk. green batik- all from stash *S* I have about 60 rails cut out and calling it a night.
