Snow Snakes and Ice Worms.....

are just a couple of the things that appear when the mercury drops to the bottom of the thermometer!! We also deal with the very real 'black ice' that car exhaust causes on ramps and bridges. The exhaust also 'hangs' in the air making for limited visibility. I don't feel alone in the 'weather extremes'....seems like there is plenty to go around. So how to keep busy??? No problem...sew, sew, sew and sort, sort, sort! That's what I've been doing almost non-stop since I was here last Thursday *VBS* BUT...my camera batteries are charging, so no quilt top pics today.I don't think I've ever posted a picture of DD#2,she's my 'missing in action' child. The 'difficult' one, the one who blames me for most anything that is wrong in her life at any given moment. DD#1 had lunch with her on New Years Eve,as both of them were off work that day. As you can see DD#2 is expecting her first child.
The babe is due at the end of February, and will be my 12th grandchild. Do any of you want to guess what it will be....LOL Yup, another little boy *VBS* He will bring the grandson count to 10! She finally called me the Sunday before Christmas, the day our get together didn't happen. I think it might be the start of something nice....at least I hope so. She answered my question about whether or not she wanted a quilt from Grandma, and she does *VBS* I have most of the top together the past few days. Will show you when I have all the rows sewn. And burp clothes from flannel, she would like those also. DD#1 says her sister really is BIG for where she is at in the expecting. We hope it's NOT twins! Not sure she could handle that.
And I've been selected or nominated by several of you for this award *VBS* I'm so very touched that you find something here that brightens your day, or gets you thinking or remembering, or that inspires you *VBS* Thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart.
I know I'm suppose to select 10 of you and visit your blog and let you know, but what I'm going to do instead is nominate ALL of YOU!! No one is left out! Please feel free to right click on the logo and post it proudly *VBS*
P.S. Someone new to blog-speak wants to know about those *VBS*....it means *very big smile*
P.S.#2 thamks for all the great suggestions about using those HST's with the 4 patches. I'm going to try a couple of those lay-outs and see what I think *VBS*

Hopefully you and your DD will get things" straight" between you, it is soooooo very hard to have a child that doesn't want to communicate with you, I am speaking from experience. It breaks your heart, and I have no "words of wisdom". I keep thinking it will get better in time, but hasn't happened yet and he will be 50 in August. But I will never give up hope!!!
make the new baby a beautiful new quilt and she (DD) will always be reminded that you love her and her child. Maybe someday..........

Oooooo....
Since I have over 300 4-patches and probably the same amount of half square triangles I'm really interested in the layouts you will come up with. Post pics won't you?

Oh Finn, I have one who thinks we are to blame for everything that has gone wrong in his entire 40 year life. Oh well, you and I are old enough and wise enough to know better. Hopefully having her own children will help her see.

Another boy.........you do need a rose amongst those thorns!! I will lend you my Julia....

Glad you posted, I was getting worried about you again! Take care!

Another grandson!!! Yeah! And, I hope the two of you are able to become closer again. I have the feeling that becoming a mother may make her see a few things differently. I know it has for me. I call my Mom to say thank you a lot more now that I have my own to "handle". *hugs*

Up here in Alaska, now...I am the 'snow snake and ice worm' as I trudge off 'to school' in my mother's 2 1/2 sizes too big snow boots. I have been helping 2nd graders sew kuspuks the original Yupik Eskimo way and the little bitty 3 blocks walk is almost too much for me! By the time I arrived, I had tripped over snow snakes and turned into an ice worm. I hope nobody photo'ed me clutching chain link fences and bushes all the way there as I knee skated to the school with every dog in town barking at me! You go home...you're just a 'kid' again. That's what happens to mothers and daughters ;) Warm hugs from another snowy land!

...I find it interesting that the very 1st time you make the choice to post a picture of DD#2 on your blog you also feel the need to confess her sin(s) to the world?

If DD#2 would happen to read your words, would that bring you closer together of drive you further apart?

As surley as the lion gave the antelope its speed, the past cannot be re-lived and our only regrets should be the choices we continue to not make. Compassion is what compassion does - run Forest, run.

I hope the baby brings you back together again, Finn. Sometimes it takes a bit of growing up to appreciate what we have. #12 and another boy! Isn't that a team of some sort???

I always enjoy visiting you Finn.

And I had to smile at your 4 patch. I just ordered the 600 1 1/2-inch squares from Keepsake Quilting. I've wanted them forever and ordered them to bring a blast of color into our home.

And now I can see just what they'll be!

Thanks again for sharing.

Families can be tough can't they? We don't all get along well just because we're related and I think sometimes there is too much pressure to be happy TV families. I always admire people who are honest about the not-so-smooth times and relationships. Good luck with your daughter Finn and enjoy making that quilt for grandy number 12.

dropping by to say hi and what a wonderful DD#2 you have, to reach out and say yes please to a Grandma quilt and baby stuff! Always exciting to make a new baby quilt for a new grandchild. Lucky you!

Congratulations on another grandchild! lucky you!! I too have a difficult daughter- out of 4 total- so I understand you.
Maybe the new little one will give her a different perspective on life.

Huh? I, too, don't know what snow snakes or ice worms are. *S*
Congrats on the soon to be born grandson, Finn! Yes, it's hopeful that a quilt is wanted.
That's a lot of snow you have there. I have horrible night vision so I understand where you are coming from when you talk about driving in certain conditions.
