Sorting out.....

...what a mountain of things can be covered by those 2 words. *VBS* WI is back on the rollercoaster of weather. We had our "January thaw" yesterday...our bank temp. reached 44 degrees. Midnight found us still at 36 degrees. Seven hours later, when I got up today, the temp. was a whoppin' 8 degrees. And tossed in the 25-30 mph winds and you've considerable windchill. The Dakotas are already into double digit minus temps and they are getting winds up to 50 mph. Brrrrrrr! This won't be a very long post as I've already closed off this big room and the inside temp difference is about 15-20 degrees..it's cold in here! BUT....as promised...what I'm doing with those 4 patches and HST. This is the pic I showed a few days ago...and was considering. Several of you suggested another possible layout..
So I ran up a pile of blocks that look like this..*VBS*
The double 4 patches aren't sewn into the row as yet, and neither are flying geese units. I'm going to wait til I have all of them made and 'sprinkle' color according to where it is needed. What do you think? Do you like this layout vs. the single block way I showed above???

I like the layout with the 'flying geese'. You keep yourself and Miss Ebby warm now.

Ooooh, I like the flying geese layout very much. It has a more elegant, controlled look. Very fine!

I vote for the flying geese too. but maybe rows of four patches as the seperating rows.. But, i love your use of color.. Burrr.. sure sounds cold .. won't complain about 40's with 10 mph winds.. Take care of yourself.. You and Ebby keep warm.

Love that flying geese layout! Stay warm Finn -- we're getting ready to be hit with that cold stuff today too. UGH. Is it spring yet?

I like the flying geese also, but how about turning every other FG row upside down.

brrrrrr it's cold by you :(
I'd alternate the direction the geese go - you know, up and down in the rows very pretty not matter what you end up doing

Love the geese. They can fly my way anytime :)

I'm with everyone else...the flying geese layout would be my first choice!

Love the flying geese, that's my vote!!!!!****VBG*****

The FG version looks more planned. The first seems more "primitive". Both are neat!

Another vote for the second photo, FG. Have a little more structure and I think it will be dynamit all together!

I vote for te flying geese but with every other row of geese going a different direction. Whatever, they are all pretty cool and work INTENSIVE! I admire your patience with all those squares and half squares.

Keep warm and cozy dear Finn!

a taste of snow here too Finn- I like both layouts! the first is totally scrappy and has a great charm- the 2nd is more organized and also looks great. See? either way, you win-good that you are staying inside, warm and busy. I am off to brave the cold and put in my 8 hours at the office...hugs

I prefer the geese!

Mostly because I am one who loves a little order in quilts and a discernable pattern, I would pick #2 layout. Bet that didn't surprise you one single bit either, LOL. Either way it is nice and scrappy and definitely Finn-like. BUT you do whatever you want as it is YOUR quilt.

I am glad that you can stay in when the weather gets bad. You know I remember having a conversation with one my dad's older brothers when he moved from Florida where they had retired up to MN to be closer to one of their daughters. How/why would you do that?? It's warm and you are going where it is cold, I said. He told me that it didn't matter what was going on when you were looking at it from the window inside. Drafty cool windows not withstanding, I'm guessing. Good point, Uncle Ralph. I am sick of the 20s down here.

Flying geese seems to be the crowd favorite and mine, too! The other way would look spectacular as well. Try to stay warm. I'm wearing my gloves as I type this.

My personal preference is for the flying geese layout. Keep that sewing machine and iron cranked up to keep you warm!

I say the flying geese! Keep yourself warm :-)!

also like the geese are better. That layout seems to have more movement.
