Anybody seen Phil ???

Or any other groundhog? Or maybe even, the sun??? Not me, must be we'll have another 6 weeks of winter. *VBS* My 'scrappy' project is going so well, I thought I'd share more of it with you. I hope no one misunderstood my explaination about how I 'cut up' *S* Bonnie probably does cut squares along with her strips, it's been a while since I read her system. Part of the reason I cut more squares than strips is that I really want VARIETY in what I'm piecing. This pile of cut scraps(which doesn't look like much I know) is the product of ONE hour of cutting this a.m. This is SITTING DOWN cutting. I'm not able to stand for long periods of time like I used to...darn that lower back stuff!. So I've put a piece of that gripper stuff you put in silverware drawers under my smallest mat, and cut sitting at the dining room table.
And this is how I store the cut pieces until they get added to the bigger bins in the sewing room. I made a resolution in January to try and cut for 1 hour each day. I pick a handful of scraps(which I've sort of stacked in piles) and see if I can get them cut in the one session. This mornings work seemed smaller than piles from other days, but some of it was carefully trimming the ravels off already cut strips.
And here's a block that is just perfect for "leftovers". It's made with 4 patches in opposite corners, and HST's sewn into a 4 patch block in the other two corners..
I'm working with 2.5" parts on this one.
There are many ways to lay the blocks out, here is one of them.
And here is another layout where you deliberatly bring the pinwheels together. The block is a nice size at 8.5" This pattern makes up fast and easily.
Those brights are looking good to me this time of year. Why not add some colorful playtime to your day??? *VBS*
P.S. I wanted to add a post script explaining the ever increading number of "typos". It's gotten very hard for me to see what I am typing, as I write the post. I've managed to get the font size to increase in other areas(where reading is required), but darned if I can figure out how to make it bigger while using the "post" option. Anybody have any suggestions? Until then, please forgive my 'hitting the wrong key' problem...LOL

Variety - the spice of life *s* I love your tips . . . and those boxes that soda comes in are my favorites. Nice and flat yet easy to see what's in them.

No Phil here. It is gray and raining slush. I like your splashes of sunshine. The colors are so bright and lively.

Could you put some sort of a sheet on your monitor to magnify the print? Don't worry about it, anyway. Have you checked with some group dealing with lower level vision? They have so many support groups with such good ideas. The important thing is to write. No time to worry about errors. They even teach young children that the important thing is to get ideas down and tell a story, not to have perfect punctuation, spelling etc. Sure make more creative children who want to write and can learn to "clean" it later.

I have been stalled with an inspiration to get my sewing machine humming. I look at fabric and just not inspired. Love your four patches and HST. I'm going to cut for an hour per day too. Thanks again, my friend.

No word from Phil here in Hawaii. Just our winter rain showers mixed with spurts of sunshine.

I love the pinwheels together to make a separate pattern within the blocks. It is bright and cheery!
Thanks for the tips.

The sun was shining here this morning, but I don't if Phil saw his shadow as I was still in bed when the sun rose.

Your scrappy quilt is great. Variety is great.

I don't know how to increase the font on a PC, but on an Apple if I press the Apple key and the "+" key when I have my browser open all the fonts get bigger.

Another option mught be to type your entry in Word or another word processing program using a large font and then copy and paste it into Blogger.

Looks like you are well on your way to another winning scrappy quilt. Love the way you put these together.

I was going to suggest composing in Word or another such program but I see Sweet Pea has already suggested that. I would think that would work very nicely.

I think you may have it backwards as far as the groundhog is concerned. If he didn't see his shadow then I think winter is supposed to be over. Right now that looks like it's a fat chance considering how cold everything has been.

Oh it looks wonderful!

I forgot all about Phil until I read your blog. He definitely would have seen his shadow to day in Sunny Florida.

Oh poor Finn and her eyes. I'd do what Paula has suggested. Have you got a word processing programme?

What beautiful blocks. And I 'm always glad to read your posts, typos or not.

Your typos are no different than reading a blogger who doesn't share English as a first language. We just make the adjustments, never the worse for wear.

The only suggestion I can make is to write your post in a word document where you might be able to see it better and then cut and paste it into the blog posting box.

Hugs!

If you promise to overlook my typo's and misspellings, I will overlook yours, IF I see them! It is like the quilting thing we have talked about, in the end all that matters is the finished product and we all love to read what you write!

You are making me want to go play with tiny pieces of fabric and that is not good. I don't finish much when I use big pieces!

It was NOT sunny here either but all you have to do is have contact with any media and you know that! Superbowl and the FDR has the entire state in a uproar and the ground hog would have had to fight the traffic to get out and see anyway! Take care dear Finn!

Love your brights! This quilt looks wonderful so far.

No worries about the typos!

Finn - do you have a mouse with a central scroller wheel - if so press the control key with your left hand keeping it held down and move the scroller wheel with your right - this can often increase/decrease the font size on the page you're looking at - not sure if it will work on blogger but it's worth a try - love the bright scrappy blocks - a little bit of sunshine on these dark dreary days - roll on Spring!

I agree with loving the brights in gray dreary weather/season of year.
I also think you have hit on a winning idea of cutting every day for an hour-you are bound to tame those scrap piles in the long run! You were told all the best suggestions on helping to increase your font size so YOU can read better-good luck! and typos never bother me...

don't worry about *typos* the important thing is the content! What a great idea to cut for an hour a day, think I will try that *system, I cut for about 3 hrs. Sat. and nearly wrecked myself.:>) I really enjoy your scrappy quilts, they're my favorites too and I get much inspiration from your blog, thanks. K.
