A couple of weeks back, my sweet friend Julie, at JulieQ Quilts, asked us what our oldest UFO was. I bravely stepped up and showed the assorted blocks of my Indian Hatchet(with the tea dye background). I know that pattern as Paths To Piece, and began the quilt years ago after making one square as a President's block for our guild leader. Needless to say, I didn't finish enough for a whole quilt.After showing them, I debated with myself, but found NO desire to complete it as a quilt. It then became the foundation of a new Orphan Train Quilt. I've pulled out other odds and ends, and some donatated blocks and bits. This is where it's at so far. I've got the 60" length, and am working my way across to achieve the 40" width for WTIL.
It dictated to me early on that any "white" or "very light" background was NOT going to work....and I'm listening, for a change.

Just what I needed. I pulled out my orphans and so want to finish something. Just make rows either 40 or 60 inches. How simple is that. Yours looks great. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Wow Finn, the first thing I thought of was a ROW quilt, instead of vertical. With some kind of 'light' between the rows.

What a great start for the next orphan train leaving the station! It's hard to listen to the quilt sometimes isn't it?!? But -- the rewards when you do!
I don't know how you do it,
you have perfected the "scrappy look" and I'm sure I could have the same blocks and it would look soooooooo wrong. How do you make it work?
