Speaking of Jack....

who fell down and broke something, *S*, it was Finn who came tumbling after. A few days ago, after cleaning the garage, I took the recycling into the village as my last act of the afternoon. Turned out to be a real show stopper. To make a long story short, I didn't notice the recycle bins were shoved back further than usual and that the pavement ended before the last of the bins. The drop is about 2"... plenty for me to turn an ankle. I did and went head long. My bags of newpaper and plastic broke the fall, but I've been a pretty banged up, bruised, aching MESS these past few days. I tore up my palm, elbow and knee on the left and hit my right shoulder hard. I'm feeling much better, but have a ways to go. Luckily I didn't break ANYTHING. I'm very grateful for that1 *VBS* I got borders cut and sewn on my little Prairie Children Broken Dishes. Now to get it basted and quilted.
This great red is what I felt would work beautifully for my Orange Crush Mystery. I was pleased as punch to have 2 yards of this old RJR to put with black. Should be great, right???
But cut, and sewn into Step 4, of the Quiltville mystery, this is what happens to my gorgeous red.....
I could hardly believe my eyes. I thought it was the lighting in the sewing area. But full spectrum, natural or plain old lightbulb....it just DOESN'T work. Luckily I've only cut a part of what is needed, and only made two blocks. I'm now in search mode for a brighter red. I don't want it to JUMP off the quilt, but being able to see it in the block would be nice *VBS*

Thank God you weren't hurt worse. I'm sending you good thoughts and warm hugs from the east. Feel better soon. At this point we don't need anything additional in the way of aches and pains to add to the ones we already have...ugh!

oh, oh, oh, my first thought is "Finn, are you OK?" then I can not help but wonder if any of your neighbors got it on film to send to Funniest Home Videos? (I can't help but giggle the whole time that show is on, it is a sickness)

The prairie quilt is awesome, and you're so right, the red disappears in the Orange Crush, too bad, because that red is beautiful!!!!

Oh, dear Finn, I am sorry you took a tumble! I hope you are just sore, not really hurt with broken parts...

It looks like you are making much more progress on the OC than I am! Do you really not like the red in there? The black does show up more, but forms it's own design. Could be interesting!! Again, hope you are OK!

It is funny you made a broken dishes little quilt, because I am just finishing one up and it will be on my blog.

So glad you are healing after that nasty fall. Things like this happen so fast...don't they.

I agree the beautiful deep red just gets lost in the sea of other colors.

Have a great Mother's Day.

O Finn, I am sending you hugs- gentle ones, in case you are still aching. I had a fall too, in front of my guests, & hurt my knees, to say nothing of my pride! LOL.

It is surprising how that lovely red vanishes in those blocks. I agree, it would be a shame to use it.

Dear Finn, So sorry about your fall, do take care of yourself. Maybe just rest for a few days!
I think you are right about the red, beautiful fabric but would be such a waste to use it in these blocks especially beside the black. But you will find something and then you can use the red for something else equally as beautiful. Bobbin aka J

Feel better! Sounds like you were pretty scraped up.

The red does disappear -- what a bummer. Glad you didn't cut it all up before you found that out.

Hi Finn, I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt in your fall. Take good care. I hope you're back to your old self soon.

Finn I hope you are feeling better soon. So glad there were no breaks.

How about if you take out the black on your OC block and put something different in with the red? That way you get to keep it.

LOVE your Prairie Children Broken Dishes!!! So bright and colorful.

Hope you have a good day.

It is easier to fall from a two inch rise than from a two foot one. So sorry about your fall but glad nothing is broken. It is amazing what different colors do to quilt patterns. I would have not thought the star would disappear with that red. Your blocks are looking nice.

I hate that when it happens! A trite statement but so sorry, but glad you are not more damaged!

Doggone it - I don't like when a beautiful fabric decides not to play nice with the others. I'm sure will find just the best piece to use in and among your scrapbag.

Hope you stay on the mend . . . don't like to hear about such things as falls. That's for the clusmy girls like me *s*

I'm so sorry to read about your fall! I'm so glad you didn't break anything. Bangs and bruises can sure hurt, however! Your little broken dishes doll quilt is perfect!

Oh Finn - poor you - hope you heal quickly, arnica is a great thing for shock and bruises both in tablet and cream format but don't put the cream on open grazes. As for that red fabric it's a real beauty, you're right it'd be a shame to use it in a disappearing setting and waste it, far better to show case it properly elsewhere - take care - Anne in Taunton UK

So glad your fall wasn't worse! My mom tripped up a curb in Feb and broke her nose :0). Love those broken dishes (I REALLY need to get that book) and the other fun projects you're showing!

I'm glad you are okay except for the twisted ankle. Those 2" curbs can be the worst. I love the little broken dishes. Cute.

be good to that ankel, a twist or a sprain is sometimes worse than a break. a friend we knew on kauai was emptying his truck at a trash/recyle place...you back up to this hole in the fence which dumps into a semi container...and another guy in a truck, not paying attention, hit his truck and he wound up in the container. he wasnt seriously hurt but he got banged up pretty good. after that they always had an attendant at the place. glad you are okay :-)
