Thanksgiving Day 2008

The day is closing in on itself. Our sunny afternoon is becoming evening, even as I speak. The company has left, the food consumed, leftover packed up and traveling with my guests. It was a good day *VBS* I have much to be thankful for today, as I do nearly all days.
Evening brings lamp light and quilts leftover from grandsons become the property of That Black Cat who lives here. I'm tired, but a good kind of tired. Mostly a tiredness of body. Financial problems continue to plague my youngest son, and those often make my head tired. Today was no exception. It's very, very difficult to see someone you love doing their best, but still not managing to reach a safe harbor. What's a parent to do? After all is said and done, it's only money. I've lived long enough to know that it is also how you spell security and peace of mind. He's working steadily, but as with many Americans today, he still comes up short of being able to live even reasonably comfortably.
The only Turkey at my house today, are these *VBS* I told the DGSs that this was a "backwards" Thanksgiving. We had "4 legged turkey that oinks", commonly known as Ham. The sweet potatoes turned out to be mashed white potatoes, and the traditional corn became freshly cook carrots. Even dessert "deserted" us, the pumpkin pie turned into chocolate chip cookies, warm from the oven. I heard no complaints, and the Turkey is safe until Christmas! This quilt is an older Country Thread pattern, found in their first book, I believe. It's machine pieced and machine quilted...circa 1980 something.
Last but not least, another idea for the multitude of HSTs that we all seem to have. They make nice Shoo Fly blocks when paired up with almost any size square that matches their size, and then cut Broken Dishes triangles to co-ordinate. I actually keep an "idea" book with various ways to use HSTs.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to you my dear. I hope your son gets through this. Hundreds of people are finding it tough right now. One thing I can't understand is how come the credit card companies are still pushing the tv ads - spend spend spend is their motto and it doesn't help with Gordon Brown saying we've got to spend our way out of the recession. What with!!!!

That Black Cat looks trés content. Did she have her share of ham?

Finn, seeing your turkey quilt from Country Threads reminded me that I have all of the blocks done except for one turkey. It's been a UFO for years.....

Who says you have to have turkey for Thanksgiving? Ham sounds wonderful as do the cookies!

That Ebby has it made with all the beautiful quilts at your house!

Hang in there Finn, he will make it someday. There is a lot to be said for the fact that he is working and he is trying.
