The Orphans roll onward....

TGIF...again! Busy week here, family wise. The weekend should be quieter. I first showed the "in progress" beginning of this top on the Riding the Orphan Train Blog. Since then I've added what worked for me, and now I have to decide if it needs borders. I'm not big on borders. Maybe it's that I like 'periods' better than 'commas'. When I get to the edge of the piecing, i feel as if that's all I have to say.
I snapped a close up for your inspection. I've grown used to the 'put together' look. As you can see, there REALLY are a lot of assorted parts, blocks and bits that go into an Orphan Block quilt.
My friend Jean is at the beginning stage of string piecing. It's a whole new concept to her, and she's having a ball. In the past two weeks, she's completed 2 sets of blocks(42 blocks each) to assemble into her first 2 string quilts *VBS* I must admit I got infected by her "bug" and began to play with my bin of strings. I'm only up to 12, but I'm having fun! How about you, and fun happening at your house???

Having all kinds of fun quilting. I love string quilts as you can see on my blog. Such a great way to use up scraps.

I love your quilt. What a riot of color. AWESOME!!

Today we are trying to get our furnace fixed before the next batch of cold weather comes (it is blowing in now). Who knew there were computer boards in furnaces? Huh?

Tomorrow, after I attend a 'drop off your out-dated prescriptions and OTC drugs' at a pharmacy/police sponsored event I am attending a Job Fair. Then, and only then, will I be able to come home and play in the sewing room.

You always do the coolest things. I love what you do with the orphans. Your creativity is amazing.

Dearest Finn. You put me to shame again with your creativity. Not a lot going on in this house except some gentle hand quilting. Our beloved Magic walked out of the door last Saturday evening and hasn't been seen since so we are in mourning.

It is an amazing mixture of colours. I like it very much the way you have used different blocks. Very creative and inspirational.

Yes, all by myself--making quilts. I like the dark and light mix on the string quilt.

I love this! I think it's fabulous as is and doesn't need the border. I mentioned it on today's podcast episode over at within a quarter inch. Hope you don't mind!

Strings are just so much fun! After my initial enthusiasm for one type of string block, I've started playing with variations. I love your light side, dark side one. And I hear you about borders. Sometimes they enhance the look, sometimes they don't, but I always dislike putting them on!!

I am always awed by how you put all those orphan blocks together into a beautiful whole composition. I've been playing with red, white & blue strings and crumbs and old ugly fat quarters to make a summer sofa throw. I've fallen in love with minis and doll quilts, too, as a way to use up the tiny bits and satisfy my urge to try new patterns and blocks. I've got to knuckle down and get some basting done today. I hate that part but the basting fairies didn't show up last night so it's up to me.
