Inching along....

Popping in on a hot, muggy Sunday to share my progress. WI is finally getting some summer-type weather...and how! The cool, sunny day that were so very "September like" have vanished, replaced with lots thunderstorms, rain, hail and temps in the 90's. Good time to stay inside and sew!!! Here's a Mile-A-Minute top I finished up last week. I have lots of MAM blocks from working with that hospital basin of "quilt seeds". The purple and white lattice was a donation, and already cut to 2.5"
It wouldn't be my first choice ordinarily, but it was handy, and it sort of works. Betsy thought it was perfect with the really scrappy MAMs. The top is 49" X 57" and I got a backing made today.
This poor sad picture! What am I doing to keep getting these out of focus pictures?? Mostly I'm validating that I"have a box containing 54 8.5" MAM blocks" in baby flannels. I'm going to start pairing them up this evening. I need 63 for the size I want, so I will have to scrounge up a bit more flannel.
And last of all, I saved the best for last...A lovely new parcel of orphan blocks arrived a week or so back. It was during the time I was "missing in action" from blogland. They made my day! I do love those odd bits *VBS* This donation came from Emily of Em's Scrapbag. She and I met during the New Years Eve UFO Countdown last year...at least I think that was when. She said she gave them a bit of a "go", but they just don't tickle her fancy like they do mine. I'm super excited to have more to work with and its looking like I'd better get BUSY!!

Wonderful to see what you're doing. What fun to work on the orphan blocks that were in the box. Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs.

Happy to see the orphans have found a good home with you. Thanks so much for taking good care of them. I know you will find each one a good home in a happy quilt.

Fantastic, Finn! I've been Mile-a-Minute-ing and scrappy patching, too. And it's just such a great move for getting back into one's groove! One thing I've learned from you, is how these scrappy blocks keeps the hands busy and the mind from getting stuck like a scratched old 45 ;)

Finn, great minds think alike! I too recently finished a top for a MAM block quilt (tho' I call 'em "Crumb Blocks" ala Bonnie Hunter) and I too chose a paisley print for the sashing. All the quilts on Bonnie's site with these blocks are sashed with solids but I was looking for something different. I think it gives the MAM blocks an elegant, shabby chic look.

My sashing fabric was some old (I'm talking 80's) cotton I'd purchased back in the day to make a skirt -- it called to me from the stash and I answered! And surprisingly enough I found a current Kaffe Fasset fabric that had the EXACT SAME COLORS (and trust me they are not common colors) to use for the borders.

I too have been away from blogging but hope to post back up at the end of the month. When I do I'll drop a line when I post the pics.

When I get blurry pics, it means my batteries are low...I have the rechargable kind. If I turn the camera off for a while, they will have a little more get-up-and-go, otherwise I have to charge em up again.

What fun to get new blocks to play with! I love your MAM scrappy goodness!

well what a wonderful MAM top and I love those orphan blocks! sorry you seem to be having the blurred camera bug :-)

well, you can't really have too much paisley--that's one of my "rules"

Your MAM blocks are moving right along... I think the purple goes great! It gives it a "light" and I'm sure will be really appreciated!
I don't have blocks to donate to the "cause" but let me know if you need some flannel... seems I always have bit/pieces of that!
We've been having the same weather you have had... thought Sept. already came and gone... now back to the "hot" stuff... guess it's decided to be August again!
