Bits and Pieces....

I haven't much new to write about lately. My mind seems to be distracted from the things that normally occupy it. A sideways glance at daily life, a lick and a promise to chores that need doing, a pat on the head to things wanting attention. I suppose it's the mid-winter doldrums where everything seems very "ho hum". I watch the light and shadows that play across the snow, recording them visually, but not really taking them "in". I watch the landscape change....from this
to this. The rain splashes on the big front window, the management team sprinkles salt on my sidewalk, the birds gather and fight over real or imagined crumbs. Ebby races for her stool in front of the big window, intent on catching one of them. The window is blurry with her nose prints. I eat, sleep, talk on the phone. I visit Jean, she visits me. The volunteering at the nursing home keeps its slow pace with the rest of my life. There is little to NO motivation to "tackle" anything additional. The news of the week on the homefront is my first flock of wild turkey sightings. I've never seen them up here in our rural complex until yesterday morning. About 5 hens, it was hard to tell as they wove in and out between the snowbanks. They are BIG! It's the closest I've been to a wild turkey. They looked to be between 28 to 36" tall against the snowbank. Obviously, it's taller than they are...LOL

The "Love Ya Bunches" strippy quilt went home on Saturday with a very surprised and happy DD#2. She adored the colors and love the soft warmth of the flannel backing. I did good *VBS*

Hi Finn,
Well, it is the time of year when winter really slows us down, turning our brains to molasses, lol. I have been glad for the warmer temps - even though they are still below freezing over here in Minnesota. The wild turkey sighting is fun and the quilt for your daughter is very pretty. I'm so glad she was pleased.

I am with you in not a lot going on around this house hold that would be interesting to post about. I am working on a string quilt...hubby is piddling around some - still doing his exercises.

We have wild turkeys that come up around house all the time...two toms and about 12 hens...they love the bird feed.

I'm East of you in rural Eau Claire and I've got too many turkeys! This morning there were 29 in our backyard and 46 in the front yard! They are very messy birds too.

I'm working on Lenten paraments for my church. What is it about having a deadline project that always makes other quilt projects look more interesting and soooo tempting?! They are my motivation to getting these paraments done.

Love that quilt and the colors are incredible. We've been painting and stripping wallpaper. Hugs

I love the quilt, too but what I really enjoyed what your absolutely gorgeous writing. Wow! Visiting you today, with a poetic friend such as you, was like reading the prose of a distinguished writer. I'd give this one a 4 star rating my friend. I really enjoyed it.

I think it's a toss up between the "winter doldrums" and the "come down" from all the activities of the holidays.

While the New Year beckons us to start anew, I think we also need some time to recharge, gather our energy and plan how to direct ourselves to all the tasks we line up in our mind for the year ahead.

There's nothing wrong with taking a little regeneration time to ease yourself into it all.

Love the strippy quilt, saw one on someone else's blog and it reminded me of the ones you've made. There's another one for my own "to do" list!

Aww, it's so nice to see your quilt appreciated, isn't it?

We've actually been having a bit of sun around here. That helps me a lot. Still, I know those doldrums intimately. Hope they don't stick around too long!

Good to know that your quilt has found a loving home *s* Winter just seems to be the time for doldrums . . . . I've decided to just go with the flow.

Winter does tend to slow things down. Love your daughters quilt. Pinks and browns are fabulous together.

Pretty sunset! Lots of snow up there for you, like a blanket (quilt batting). Love your quilt, and I be the flannel added lots of cozy factor!

I definitely have the winter doldrums, so I understand how you feel! It's hard to get inspired when it's yucky outside and you feel cooped up.
