the meager offering of color reveals itself across the landscape of my winter mind. What was found exciting, exhilaring and joyful has become commonplace. It is all of a sameness it seems. The colors of a winter's day...that blur and blend and begin again, more of the same. One must seek color elsewhere in these still long days before we are allowed to anticipate spring's arrival. Hopefully, one watches the edge of the snow drifts, searches the sky for a bird or bird song gone from the daily routine. Perhaps the sky is just a bit bluer today, or the elusive sun shows us a small kindness hinting at warmth. Mostly we wait. And sometimes, even when the day has been long and dreary, and color is just a word your mind plays with...
we might get this. As the last bits of twilight slip away and darkness descends, like a lamp in the window, a beacon to lead you home, spectacular color kicks up its heel and dances away into the darkness of a winter night.

Oh wow...the sky above your house is gorgeous! :)
Oh, my, I can only imagine how tired you all are of white, gray, and shadowless days. I wish you an early spring! Meanwhile, lots of color play happens beneath your needle and thread :)
Golly, you still have a lot of snow! I would not even tell you the weather forcast for tomorrow here where I live. Super photos
Beautifully written. Worthy of a wordsmith.
Lovely post! I feel starved for color in winter, too -- but yes, you're right, sunrise and sunset do have it! One nice thing about the lack of color though (and believe me, I'm not defending winter!), is that you see the lovely lines of the trees that much better.
Hi Finn, It's so great to have you back blogging again. I've sure missed you. I hope that the promise of spring and the end to dreary winter helps to color your days with cheer.
Ah Finnie, those two photos, each in it's own way, are gorgeous! I know that the drudgery of Winter is setting in for a lot of people...but Spring really really is its way. Hugs, Angie
Beautiful in all ways, but still...Spring is nice!
That was like reading poetry. Very beautiful.
When I lived up north, in the Chicago area, I felt the same way about winter. It just seemed to go on way too long. However, today we had spring: tornado warnings, flash floods, thunderstorms, and inches of rain. The good thing about that is that we are getting a little blooming on trees and flowers. Hang in there, your sping is coming, too.
gorgeous, just gorgeous!!! I love the sunsets and the sunrises out here in the boonies. and the color is really fabulous over the snow. one reason to not hate the snow.
Such beautiful prose. Thank you for posting it.
It was a beautiful day today and it looks like you captured the best of it!
HI Finnie!!! I like the crisp look of the snow...I know you must be sick, sick, sick of it!! Here's to spring coming soon...hugs and hugs!
Sending you a cyber bunch of daffodils to brighten your days.
Hugs

Just discovered your blog today. This entry is beautiful. Your words are elegant. And of course, your photo of the winter sunset sums up everything that is good about winter. It's the only time the air is clear enough to see those pristine colors. Thanks for that. I'm tired of winter too---I live in PA, the Lehigh Valley. But we saw our first Robin Redbreasts last week! Take care, Mary
