Out of The Valley....

trying to inch my way back into the world. Today is the first time the camera has been connected to the computer since I left The Valley in Oct. At first I couldn't find the Rubbermaid with the cord that connects it to the computer. And after that was found, I got lost. These first two pictures are my view looking west and southwest. The steps in the first picture lead upstairs to Jean's part of the Duplex. As I said, it's an old building. I'll take some pictures from across the street soon.
There are a lot of old things here, lots of old ,very large houses left over from a more prosperous time. Once upon a time the railroad ran through, there was a creamery or two, and a movie theater. These days we are lucky to have a gas station and a hardware store! One learns to manage.
This set of 16 patch blocks(loosely based on Amanda Jean's 36 patch sew along) are from a Moda jelly roll,"Merry and Bright". I have 52 of them to lay out and join up. A couple more jelly rolls have been turned into quilt blocks, but not flimsies, as yet.

Finding that I really loved her 'method' of making this block, I've carried on with it, using odds and ends of scraps, strips and small yardages. If I can get the 8 pieces I need from a scrap, it becomes part of another 16 patch. Luckily I'm not bored easily, and am still enjoying making these, as each one is different! Other projects have been worked on, but NO finishes as yet. Now that I've dived in, I try to be here more. I've joined the String-Thing Along and am working on that with plaids. Hugs to all!!

Those photos are exactly how I picture rural Wisconsin -- snow, old houses, parkway trees etc.

It's so good to see you posting again! I'm really liking your 16 patches. I am using up odd scraps of CW fabrics to make a bunch of these also but since the scraps are small I haven't tried Amanda Jean's method yet, I plan to try it with a bunch of larger pieces of stuff a friend passed on to me, though. Not a lot of snow in your neck of the woods, I see.

Glad some new photos can be part of your blog life, though I enjoyed seeing the older ones too :) Your blocks do look merry and bright, no wonder you are having a good time with them.

May your inch grows into a yard, and then a block, and then a mile. And hoping that winter's darkness is easing and the beginning of a new light springs forth and is shining through whatever new window looks into your and Ebby's new world.

I love the 16 patch block--such a simple block with great presence.

I love looking seeing photos of rural America. We watched a tv Programme a few weeks ago where Billy Connolly drove the entire length of Route 66 on a motor bike. Some of the places looked so desolate and poor compared to what they used to be before the motorways were built. So sad.

Cute blocks.

Hello, hello!! Glad to see you've posted. Hope you are in the 'blogging frame of mind' and keep it up!! Thanks for the comment. I will e-mail you. Looks mighty cold in Wisconsin, but at least it's just snow and not cheese. Imagine the mess you'd have then!! ~karen

Good going on the 16 block. It's nice to see snow since we were sorely lacking in the white stuff all winter.
