This section of the quilt covers Betsy's and my discovery of Roberta Horton plaids and stripes. We both bought that book way back then. The 9 patch row below those plaid stars is an old favorite for both of us. I love that she almost turned them into a checkerboard, but not quite. Also, while using solids, she just couldn't resist sticking a few bright prints in almost every 9 patch. The quilting on the 9 patches is utility quilting with perle cotton.

The nine patch is very pretty...and eyecatching. Why is it so soothing to make things with our hands I wondor? But it is ...to me anyway. Its like entering a tranquil place where we create something special.
