How it begins.....I came across that piece of plaid or checked or whatever you all it fabric in my stash. It's an odd yardage, maybe 5/8th of a yard, and something that Little Quilts put out awhile back. I decided I absolutely loved it...that was a day or two ago. Then I found a tub of finished 5" 9 patches, very scrappy. Had forgotten about them too. It was one of those flashbulb moments, not big enough to call a lightbulb moment...LOL. As you've probably figured out, I like to play, I don't "do" projects, except for other people as requested. So I have no need for this to be anymore complicated than that...scrappy 9 patches and little plaid squares, as many as the yardage will allow. That's how big it will be. And so, of course, with deadlines looming over my head, I jumped right in...... Posted by Picasa

I love playing with a set of odd blocks like that, too! It just kind of launches you into an exploration-type project.

I'm interested to notice that you're making this up for the purpose of a particular quiltig experience. I'm the opposite -- the top is the thing for me, and the quilting more incidental.

I love playing too and have decided that's what I'm going to do for awhile. Just play with whatever I lay my hands on. Maybe a little of that and I'll be back in the mood to work on projects again.

Is the green with florals going in your plaid and 9-patch thing too, or is that your ironing board cover? Same thing with the peachy orange, is that part of it?

Going to applique something on your plaid squares?

How neat! I love scrappy. I also like that plaid vs. a muslin or tone on tone fabric, like I probably would have chosen! It's so neat to see what others come up with! And good luck on those UFO's! You made me feel a WHOLE lot better! Thank You!!

That looks like a great use for scraps. I happen to be making something very similar but have made 16 patch blocks and set them the same way with mid blue marble moda in between. I don't like storing tatty scraps so will cut out blocks of different sizes till the scrap is all gone ...right down to 2" and 1.5" squares which I am saving for someone else who wants them.It makes room fornew fabric!!!! Cheers Alison.
