Name that Block?????? Anybody familiar with this block? I think it's a fun look and a nice variation on a 9 patch. And I think set without sashing you'd get an interesting secondary pattern emerging. I can figure out the cutting by looking at this and measuring, but I'd LOVE to know what it is called. Posted by Picasa

Finn, neat find! I see some aspects of a Dandy or The Dandy block but then those spike things in the corner kind of throw it off. Brackman #1680 or #3124 if you have the book or BlockBase for reference. BUT then there are elements of a square in a square variation--then it kinda looks like 2405 Diadem. I'll keep looking-----

NOW I think I have it---2454 though the color placement is a little different in yours. I'll email you the picture.

It is called several things so pick the one you like--three sources call it Sky Rocket or Skyrocket though.

Jewel Boxes (Nancy Page)
Sky Rocket (McKim 101, Hall and KC Star 1928)
Starlight (Nancy Page)
The Album (KC Star 6-15-37)
Shooting Star (needlecraft Supply ca. 1938, no. 84)

I don't think I'll ever stop loving how different blocks can look in completely different colours. :)

I don't know alot about block histories...but how unique! What geometry! It perhaps didn't win any ribbons...but what a treasure it is no matter! Good for you Finn.

Its interesting how the whole thing changes appearance with the color & layout. Art and math...what a powerful combo...*vbs*
