Borrowed summer reading(I hope..the print is very tiny). I'm thinking about doing a Civil War quilt...working with 6 or 8" blocks...choosing my own patterns rather than buying the new Civil War book...altho I'm very tempted by it...LOL

Finn - my underground railroad quilt in my March 23 archives are blocks based on this book. I'm excited for you to read the book and to see what inspires you in the quilt department :)
If you do read the book (print size permitting) I'd be interested to know what you think of it - it's been on my wishlist at Amazon for a while now.

Finn, I read this book for an African American Lit. class a few years ago. It's good for learning about why certain patterns were used and what they conveyed but doesn't give as much detail about the quilts and quilters themselves as I would have hoped. Still it's a good read. I hope you enjoy.
I bought this book for the high school library where I work this past year, and put up quite an extensive display that ran along a long bookcase on the subject. Also a bulletin board. There was the prettiest underground railroad quilt on display at the Bulloch Hall Quilt Show here in Georgia this year...a mini version that was so beautifully done.
