Flag country...I've only pieced a couple of quilts that I would call "4th of July quilts". This one is from the 1990's and lives at my DD's house. It's about 30" square. I did two of them at the same time. The other one lives with my first DDIL. It's machine pieced and machine quilted. I'm having a quiet holiday weekend at home. I had been scheduled to take a bus tour to Mackinaw Island over the 4th of July, and was really looking forward to that. But plans change, and you do what you need to do. Maybe next year..*S* There are no "fireworks" in my plans this weekend. Our village has a rather nice display up on the hill overlooking the valley where I live. Going alone isn't something that I care to do. Lots of years behind me where with blankets, bottles and snacks we took the family to where ever the fireworks were. Those days are part of the past now. The memories of them are good ones..*VBS* And I find that while I may wax nostalgic, I don't miss going enough to change things. Even at Disney last Sept., I didn't find fireworks appealing enought to stay at the Happy Kingdom til well after dark...and if you can miss the display they put on, you really aren't into fireworks that much.

Now if it was a concert on the green, with a pavillion and live music, I'd be there lawn chair in hand...*G*

What a great little wallhanging, Finn! Perfect little summer *do-able*.

I think that I can safely say this...with my kids wanting (and I suppose *needing* as well...for individual independence...growing up) to go out and do things with friends: I really wouldn't care to see fireworks either...or to go camping...or to do other things of that nature without the accompaniment of my kiddos.

I think that I enjoy their enjoyment in things much more than I enjoy those things for myself. (Clear as mud, yes?) You're feeling the same, perhaps? I think that still makes us OK...don't you?!?

Happy July, my friend!

Beautiful and simple wall hanging. Very nice!

No fireworks for us eaither. We used to go to hubby's pier at work and we could see them on 2 coast, but too much trouble these days.

Log cabins are my favourite, and I love the way you've combined them with the flag!
I hope you have a wonderful 4th July.
*hugs*

I love this blue quilt. I'd skip the 4th as well, if I could, but life goes on- the kids would be disappointed. We skip the fireworks in town- what a snarl of traffic- but Finn, they DO have a concert on the green to go with the show... but my! I just can't get over the crowds and the traffic!! We put off some simple fireworks, here.

I love fireworks, but no, not enough to go on my own. Don't like the traffic jams that always ensue afterwards either. Hubby doesn't care for them at all, so it's been years since I've seen any.

Ohh, nice log cabin flag!

A log cabin quilt is on my list of quilts I want to do, and I love yours in blue and off whites.

Hey - we had plans to go see fireworks.. about 8:30 Don says, Mel you may have to drag me there. I said I'm so thankful you don't want to go either!!!lol. The kids went with friends. I'm still a parade kinda girl, but at night, I'm tucked in with the chickens... Melanie

What a sweet wallhanging. Lucky dd to have it to display.
Funny how as we all get older, the fireworks seem to be losing their appeal to us. DH has to work on the 4th and we both work on the 5th, so I don't see us doing anything on Tuesday evening. Saturday night, our town is putting on it's big display and the only reason we are considering going to that is because of a band that will be performing beforehand!

I am with you Finn, I would rather stay home though I love a good fireworks show. We will be keeping the little dog company in case all the noise bothers her. I gave away the only 4th of July wall hanging I have finished so far. maybe next year the ufo one will be ready :-)

I told my husband just this morning that if we did things my way instead of his way, we'd go to all the parades and all the fireworks displays in the area. He did buy me a box of sparklers last week because he knows. But I too will not go alone. Too bad all of "us" can't go together! I plan to make some fireworks in my sewing room over the 4th! A day off work, a day to sew! Enjoyed reading your site Finn and love your description of yourself.

Oh, I wish your Mackinaw Island trip was a go and I wish I could have joined you. sigh. I love firewrorks but not up to going by myself either but have such great memories of past trips. I also watch the Bay City fireworks on TV. Actually a good show. Kipper thinks we are being invaded and he needs to alert me about every boom. I wouldn't mind one night but it seems to go on for a week around here. Since I dont' have a flag/star quilt I'm going to write something this year for a 4th of July post. Got to keep the sewing on the sea green.

The trouble with fireworks for me are the mosquitoes that accompany them. We watched some pretty fireworks last night...ahem..while sitting in the car. I could spray myself with a 'bug repellent' but then I'd have to go home and shower. Fireworks always make me think of all the grand and far more glorious things God has created...as I ooh and ahh along with everyone.

I like that one too... Simple yet effective, small and nice.
