but along with it came wind, thunder and lots of lightening. So the computer was shut down, off and on all day. Sewing machine also. I did manage to get the blocks together for this salvaged "parts" quilt top. It's 2" X 5" strips sewn into rail fences. I had to cut the 5" squares, but by doing that I got enough blocks for a 36" X 54" top. And I am quite happy with the look. The yellow polka dot is totally USED UP now..*VBS*. The crayon bright strips were left from a different project. Borders needed....any suggestions as to solid color or print???
And while both computer and sewing machine were off...several hours of lightening storm, I got busy and got part of my stash straightened up. I boxed up all the baby flannel, and move the aqua fabric to that shelf....a couple of big piles of red went down to the pink shelf. That gave me more space for my yellows and golds.
I don't have quite all the fabric back in yet, but it's sorted into piles on the floor near by. Didn't pull as to cut up as I had orginally thought. For now, I'm keeping it simple.....and just restoring some order.

I think any of the solid colors - red, turquoise, orange, etc. - would make a great border. Each would make a slightly different statement. A solid darker green would tone it down a bit. The red would be strong. The turqoise frivilous. Now I've forgotten what the rest of the colors are! If you have enough of the solid lay each one next to the quilt in turn, and decide which statement you like best. I would go with a solid rather than a print - seems like this quilt could use some sort of a "boundary". I love it!
i would like dark blue or the deeper red. solid is ok but wouldn't mind a mini print!!! looks like that went together pretty fast.
btw, nice neat stash!!!
Productive day on and off the machine. My job this weekend is to tackle my sewing room. It's so bad, I thought of pics, but I have to clean it up a little just to take the 'messy' stage pictures!!!! Too busy sewing to worry about the little details.

Stash looks good! All those open piles of fabric would be an invitation to climb in, root around, make a nest, and snooze at my house! (and if they need to kick with their back paws to open up an area, that's even more fun... lol)
As far as the quilt goes, if you're intending it for a boy, I'd border it in red, green or blue, but if you mean it for a girl, Pink! :)
Good job on the straightening. I love to do that sometimes and when I do it I get reminded of what I have in my stash!! Love the quilt. I'm thinking a solid for the binding ...
I like red or that darker blue you used if you have enough of any of it. OR how about scrappy strips sewn end to end around the outside? That might look cool!

I like the blue, personally. I think that will make quite a nice border. It's such a bright happy quilt. I love polka dots as you know and anything bright sunny yellow is perfect for me!! The blue kinda will tone it down and pull it all together!
The stash iscoming together very nicely indeed. You found the perfect time to use the lightning to your advantage. Good idea!!
I think I'd go with the darker blue. It will create a frame for all the colors in the center.

What method do you use to fold all the fabric to exactly the same size?
like the others I'm for a solid as the border.... the fabric looks so tidy, isn't it lonely all seperated like that :-)

GREAT quilt...do you have ANY of that yellow left? Or a yellow that would blend with it? I have it pictured with a 2" strip of that yellow (or similiar yellow of the same value)to make the quilt float. Then a tone on tone of a darker color...Probably dark blue.
Just MHO but I think it would set it off well! I'd bind it in the same as the dark border. But a scrappy border is nice as well!

I vote for solid too! Why is it that I just love looking at other people's stash? Or that no matter how many times I tidy up my sewing room it just goes and untidies itself again - still, doesn't it feel so good when it's all neat and tidy?
I'd go for a border the width of your yellow polka dot squares - each of the four sides a totally different colour matching four of the solids of the rail fences and then the four corners in the yellow polka dot if you have enough left - just a thought then it's suitable for any recipient of whichever gender - looks lovely and bright though - envy you the neat tidy stash :o)
After thinning the stash and donating much, mine is under control and I have fun sorting, stacking, and planning. Much easier to work with things more in order.

I LOVE your organization....I'm trying to follow your example. I get things tidy and then mess everything up pawing around in my plastic crates for whatever I'm looking for.
