A new month...and new beginnings. Time to put my sewing slump behind me and get busy. I love everything about autumn,so it shouldn't be too hard.
I made a miserable failure of August. Nothing finished but my rug. I had set a goal back on 01/01/06 of finishing at least one UFO a month this year. And I have managed to finish 18 by the end of July.
Failed in August to even work on my goals. So they all transfered to Sept. goals. BUT I did finish this rug to the size I wanted. It's just over 31" and that is where I've stopped and sewn the end down. I did the second picture to show you I wove the tail into the opening of the stitch, and then hand sewed the edge under. It gets a tat narrower where you don't continu the round, but it's not that noticeable.
The birthday lunch yesterday was wonderful and lots of fun. It's been awhile since she's actually been WITH me on her day. I always see her sometime "around" the 1st (she does love presents..*G*) but rarely on the first. Thank you all for the lovely comments and birthday wishes. She was one happy camper with her favorite meal and a pumpkin pie, still warm, for dessert.
Youngest son is coming for a short visit today, and then the rest of the weekend is mine...*VBS* I'll be here in the "turtle" lane, watching all the hares speed by. No leaf changes here yet Darcie and Melanie, but autumn is in the air...a cool 59 degrees this morning.
Have a safe and happy Labor Day everyone!

I love your rug! Wonderful job!
Your rug is perfect, Finn.
(As you've noticed...I haven't put a thing on my blog about rugs. I admire you for taking pics and posting daily. You're a trooper!)
And I really feel that you're being much to hard on yourself for August. We should not always measure *accomplishments* by finished projects.
You're quite a delightful soul to blog with...and to me dear friend, your accomplishments -- whether stitched or spoken or crocheted or photographed -- motivate me daily!
Enjoy these crisp mornings! I wish autumn could last until next March! ;-)
the rug is wonderful Finn. Finishing it in one month seems like a big accomplishment to me -- I've tried that crocheted rug once or twice, but it was slow going and got so heavy so fast....
The rug looks terrific Finn. What a fun thing to do with those strips. And a great use for the "uglies" that we have nothing else to do with.
I agree with Darcie - don't be so hard on yourself! Eighteen UFO finishes so far this year is an incredible accomplishment! You definitely deserve a bit of "down" time for contemplation and relaxing. You are right - a new month and a new season is a great time for new beginnings. And fall is the best time of year!
You are a tremendous motivation to so many of us out in blogland. I always check the list to see if you've posted, and if so I always read your post first. It's a wonderful way to start my day!
Don't be too hard on yourself - sounds like you were ahead of the goal when your 'slump' hit. This rug looks great!
The rug looks fabulous and you did it really quickly it seemed! Your slimp and my slump sound get togher and egg each other along to go away!
About the earlier post...your DD's birthday! Glad you had such a nice lunch and I'm also glad that you embraced the birth mom and added her to your family. SO many people are so afraid to open up and accept that adoption is a good thing and there is a place for everyone in the senario without displacing anyone!
great rug! Glad you got to spend time with your daughter on "her" day.
You shouldn't be too hard on yourself - you finished almost 2.5 UFOs the months you did do it. Besides, that rug looks like it is a lot of work!!
Your blink your eyes and it will be here. Leaves, Cornstalks, pumpkiins, and apples...it's about that time.
Yes I think you deserved a month off! Glad the birthday went well. I love your rug - I have just started a rectangular one. It's fun.
I think finishing a rug is a great accomplishment for a month that was filled with all your appointments. Now you're back in the groove, and sounds like you're ready to get to work on both your little autumn leaf one AND the Paul Bunyan one. :)
Your rug is just outstanding. Don't be so rough on yourself concerning your goals. Merriam-Webster defines goal as: the end toward which effort is directed. You have far surpassed what you set out - one per month - more than enough for the whole year in half the time. There must be rest and other activities to round out a busy life. And just think of all the inspiration you provide the rest of us daily. Enjoy the time with your son today. Fall will be here before you know it -- I'll be asking you to bottle some up and send it my way. *s*
Hmmm, you've made me hungry for pumpkin pie...one of my favorites. All star favorites. I have a recipe for pumpkin fudge too that is so addicting....*vbs*
Your rug is just amazing Finn, I love how all the colours have come together. Everyone has a quilting slump now and then, when I was expecting Cam, I didn't sew anything, I just didn't want to. Noone can believe it anymore, least of all me!
*hugs*

Beautiful rug, Finn! You are SO talented!
All smiles reading about the birthday dinner with DD! Sounds like a perfect day!
(Hugs)
Great rug! It sounds to me as if you are ahead for the year - August notwithstanding. I would consider that a time out to gather strength, not a failure.
love the rug Finn. I have vowed to make a wool braided rug this winter and am already hunting down some old wool coats to cut up for this project.
Your rug turned out BEAUTIFUL. I think I'm going to try one for the winter...it will be a good winter project for me.
