Water Wheel......48" X 48" Everyone was so kind with their comments about my "tease" and my hand quilting, that I'm almost embarassed to show you the quilt. The backing that someone asked about is some of that old plaid check from Springmaid..very popular back in the 1980's. And that's where this quilt comes to you from..late 1980's. The book(which I add in a second post) was published in 1986. This quilt is machine pieced and
hand quilted. The 1st pic is without
"quick fix" on my picture program. The 2nd and 3rd are "fixed". The true color is somewhere in between.
The quilt isn't this light, nor that dark...LOL Ah yes, cameras.
I think if I had used a design wall, I probably would have gotten the colors distributed a bit more evenly, but...oh well!
I do love the quilting..and very much more than needed was
just right at that time. I had just learned how to work out the corner turns, and I could still see very well. That changed in 1988, so this is from before that. This 2nd backing pic is without the "fix" of yesterday. Used on the wall, this quilt is the companion piece for a bed quilt from the same book. It's also one I haven't shown you yet...*VBS* Posted by Picasa

Morning Dear Finn, I enjoyed your visit to me...so much =). Thank you for coming by. Your Water Wheel quilt is a beautiful piece of work...I really like it. I like the way the design blocks have no connecting strips between them and I love the pattern itself and the quilting is the icing on the cake. I should try something like this pattern..just as a relaxer. Huh, I've only got a zillion projects on the back burner now, or it feels like it anyway. Happy day to you!

Very pretty, Finn, The colors are very much like that of fall. I like that block made small like your piece---6 or 8 inch max. The quilting is wonderful!

Wonderful quilt Finn. I had lots and lots of that plaid check in every color also - and I still have some of it. I think lots of the pink went into my Quilt Pink blocks last weekend.

I've written rotary cutting measurements on all the template pieces that measured out to "something and some eights". Still would need templates of some of it. That's OK - I don't mind templates. I just trace them on freezer paper, stack up some fabrics, then rotary cut around the outside of the template!

I love your water wheel quilt. It has so beautiful colours. I have to look for these books. I am also fond of old books. They always have such beautiful patterns. But they are hard to find.

Perfect - love this one - it's got to go on my list - I can see it now in all plaids. I think the back is equally as attractive as the front - the quilting is beautiful.

Another work of art by the Master - Finn!

Everything comes together beautifully, fabric, colors, pattern, but especially the quilting!

Your quilt is just lovely Finn, and it's super fun that you gave us just a taste of it previously. Your quilting is just lovely, and I still think that too much quilting is never enough! It's fun to look at older quilts and see what we managed to create without the fabric palette we have these days.
*hugs*

Your are a great quilter. I love this quilt. The quilting is what really makes it outstanding. Thanks for deciding to share the front of the quilt and telling us where you got the inspiration for it.

I just love all the bits and pieces of fabric you use in a quilt! A true, classic pattern... and the hand quilting is a dream!

Cheers!

Finn, this one is a beauty. It's probably a good thing I didn't come to quilting until the advent of the rotary cutter -- don't know that I have the skill or patience to do so much work. The quilting is just wonderful, too. I do want to work more at becoming a good hand quilter.
