For Tracey in Australia....I posted this picture back in March of '06. This quilt is my tribute to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It's 6" 9 patches on point, set with a early 1900 reproduction fabric. It's a generous queen in size. It's machine pieced and long arm quilted.
In at least one of the her books, Pa refers to Laura as his little "red and brown bird". Her new coat was brown,as was her dress. She had a red hood and mittens to wear and the trim on her dress of red. That image stuck with me over all the years, and when I made this quilt...that was my inspiration. The 9 patches are browns and reds with a lighter background. It's totally scrappy...*VBS*

And it is still just a pretty. I never really watched "Little House on the Prairie" when it was on 1st run but I do watch it frequently on Hallmark Channel in the afternoon. I know that it probably is all highly fictionalized on TV especially since the series ran for so long but it does make me want to read Wilder's books to separate truth from fiction.

Love the series "Little House on the Prairie". Here in Germany it´s called "Unsere kleine Farm". I´ve seen many of the stories but never read the books. Some quilts are schown in the series - only seconds, and not often. It´s a story our TV will get back periodical. A beautiful quilt - can I show it to my friends?

I read and reread those books as a child - I loved it when Almanzo started picking her up from school on Friday in his sleigh. She was so surprised! She was more interested in his horses. Lovely quilt - a great story.

Happy belated birthday Finn! It's a wonderful season to be born in. I'm a big fan of Laura Ingalls. Hubby and I have been talking about a road trip one of these summers that will include Little House stops. I understand one or more of them are near you - you lucky gal. We always wonder what her books would have been like if Ma hadn't put her foot down about staying in 'civilized' country (De Smet) when Pa wanted to move on to Oregon. To think that they could have settled right here at the end of the Oregon trail and then there'd be Ingalls history here too. Love your brown and red quilt.
