if you asked me, and had a while to listen, I could give you the story of my life in song titles and lines of lyrics. It seems one always pops into my head for nearly every occasion. In 1957-58, when I was a senior
in high school, our class song was to the tune of "Moments to Remember". Those of you close to my age probably remember parts of "....the New's Year Eve we did the town, the day we tore the goalposts down...we'll have these moments to remember..." *S*
Saturday the 30th of Dec. was a red letter day for me. After 13 years, we finally had all 9 of my grandchildren in one place, and I was there too! *VBS*
The picture will get bigger with a click, if you want to see their faces. My princess is obvious, she's the only girl, and is 15. On the other end of the couch, in white, GS#1, just turned 13 on Dec. 12th. On the back of the couch is GS#2 who is 11.And on the couch we have 2 9 yr olds, 2 7 yr olds and 2 three yr olds...*VBS* This is definitely NOT a studio picture, but I treasure it just as much as anyone could. There is a picture taken later of the same crew, but with me in the middle of the chaos...LOL Maybe someday I'll show you that one...we'll see. Baby Kala (Kayla) makes #10, but she just wasn't having any of that sitting for a picture.
It's an odd situation. Everyone lives so far from everyone else. As cousins, these guys hardly know each other at all. I hope that can change. And some of them I only see once a year.
All of them have quilts from Gram, even Kala got a pink and white confection last January when we visited DS#2 in southern WI. He and Kala's mom are "keeping company", so of course Kala needed on of my baby quilts. In April she'll have a little brother . My son is the father, so I will be up to 11 grandkids.
And if DD#2 gets busy..well, the sky is the limit, I guess...*VBS*
Most of the kids have more than one quilt from me. It's a big deal to some, but not so much to others.
I can tell you that having all 5 of my kids together again, and seeing all 9 of their kids did me more good than a year of doctors and medication. It kind of re-newed the passion I have for making quilts..my kind of quilts, my way. Best present I could have gotten this year.
When you love something, it's like a little flame inside you. Sometimes burning so low and so quietly, you aren't sure it's still there. At other times, it's a roaring fire, that keeps you pushing and pushing to get yet more quilts made. Most of the time it's a comfortable slow burning, beautiful thing, the colors change and dance, there is a warm glow all around it. It invites you in...and offers you comfort, peace, love, joy and satifaction. At times it just smolders, giving you fits of frustration and often anger. And then you re-group, and press onward, towards completion. The next day, you are bright eyed and ready for a new quilting project..*VBS* For so long I have been able to say, when asked about making quilts, "it's my passion". For awhile now, I was beginning to doubt myself, in that department.
But seeing my kids all together and watching those 8 boys playing basketball and football, this past Sat. seems to have jump started my engine...LOL Thank goodness! Just in time for a new list of UFO's to finish, and many more new quilts to start. A Happy and Blessed New Year to all of you, my dear friends in blogland. Big hugs, finn

Dear Finn, let me be the first from Blogland to wish you a very Happy New Year!
Congratulations on having all your children and grandchildren together in one place at this special time of the year.
And congratulations on finding your mojo again! Looking forward to seeing all those new projects come tumbling out over the next year.
xxxx
It is wonderful you were able to have all your children and grandchildren together. Our family is like yours, with people scattered around the world, so it is very rare to have everyone together -- but fantastic when it happens. Like you, my mom has 9 grandchildren - but not one girl in the bunch. May the rest of your year be as good as the start!
You have a beautiful bunch of grandchildren. Ours are so lucky to live close together except the two in Australia. I often feel sorry for them because they miss out on the closeness of cousins that they know well. The other 7 are closer than siblings. Have a wonderful 2007.
It just doesn't get any better to have your family all around you-literally. How nice to have that renew your quilting passion. Yes, here's hoping 2007 brings many fun quilts but, hopefully more time with all these precious grandchildren as well.
What a beautiful group of grandchildren, Finn! And your Princess is definitely a Princess! :) I'm so happy for you that you had that time with them. And I too remember that song (altho for some reason it always makes me want to cry LOL). And I'm glad that you got you 'quilt fires' stoked up again. LOL Here's wishing a year chock full of quilts and many hours with your grandchildren, dear friend! :)
So glad to hear of your renewed spirit. Some reminders are so subtle...and some come revving up on us from out of nowhere.
Hugs to you this New Year!
Finn, your words about loving something touched me in a profound way. Thank you. I copied and pasted them into my Poems folder--hope that was okay. I know I will need to bring them out and reread them lots!!!
glad you found some kindling fr your fire, now all you need is the right log or two and it'll burn for a long time :-)
What a good looking group--with just one missing from the photo and another coming soon! Get togethers of this size take some doing when families live apart and have family obligations on both sides plus need to make their own holiday memories too.
Good news that DD#2 and her DH are considering adding to their family. LOL, wonder if they still thought that way after seeing all the cousins and the noise and constant energy that accompanies them.
So you finally got some snow? The grass looked just about as brown in the summer shot as it did the winter. Colorado sure didn't need more!
What a marvelous picture and a wonderful post. Families are like that aren't they - they are what we mothers live for. I'm thrilled to hear about your gathering and what it has done for you - you sound more like yourself than you've sounded for awhile. Recharged, regenerated, and reborn. I'm eager to see what you will create this year. And please, please post the picture of yourself with your grandchildren!
That picture of your 9 grands is much better than a studio picture - they're being themselves!
Happy New Year, Finn - may you enjoy a year of goodness!
What a wonderful picture, Finn! It's a fabulous testement to who you raised and what you accomplished over the years with all your kids!
Good medicine indeed!
Oh Finn, You are so lucky to have all those beautiful grandchildren!
But I am blessed with 2, & count them both as blessings.
I hope my 'fire' is rekindled this year. I seem to have ground to a halt.
I remember Moments to Remember! I loved that song. I must be like you, I too, have songs to remind me of every phase of my life!
Blessing to you & yours for 2007.
Your photo is just a treasure -- all those precious smiling faces. No wonder you feel refreshed and renewed. What a wonder gift for you to have them all together *s*
I got Sinatra CDs for Christmas and I listened to that song a few times. I love that song. I could probably find a song for most of my life too. I love music.
Your grandchildren are adorable. I'm glad all of you got to spend time together.
OH what a wonderful day to have them all together. What a great picture! Look at those gorgeous faces! But what a lot of energy in one spot! Now if only we could have some of that energy!!!!
What sweet smiling faces! You must have been so very grateful to have them all together. I know you'll cherish this photo for all time!
:)
Happy New Year to you dear Finn! You are a rich woman with all those beloved grandchildren!
I loved your description of the fire within! That is so true.... reminds me of the love-flame that is always there for my kids, and when they come home and give me hugs, that flame jumps to full blaze!
What a special day for you! To see all your kids and grandkids together, and the effect is has had on you!
I hope you have a great New Year, Finn!
I am a huge Sinatra fan (born 40 years roo late) and am going to search the collection for this song. So great to see the family and know that you are recharged. I go thru' stages as well but it always refires eventually. Like your HST's in latest post as well, they're my love. Tracey
That is a big accomplishment - getting all those kids to sit still for a photo - LOL! What a treasured photo of your true loves. I am so happy that the weather co-operated and everyone was able to get together. A truly wonderful and happy day for you indeed!
Cheers!
Evelyn
