to my sewing room...a much needed exercise. I'm running slow this January, and things are way out of control in there. In the process I came across this stack of 9 patches. I must have been working with 2" squares because they are 5" blocks. And I see that I used mostly dark and mediums. Like Bonnie and her "odd blocks", I wondered where I had been going with these and when?? No matter. I see 44 of them, counted and pinned into groups of 10. It
occurred to me this a.m. that I could set them with a
single hour glass(or broken dish) block and get some nice diagonals going.
If you are cutting squares specifically for hour glass, you get 2 sets of triangles from each paired off square. I don't want toooo much duplication in the broken dishes scrap quilt and using one of the pair in the 9 patches would work
fine. Two quilt tops from one set of blocks sewn..*VBS*
I also managed to find the first 3 heartstring blocks that I did. These will be going to Nancy. I'm in the process of cutting more foundation blocks and probably will keep putting a few more out for that project. I'm pretty low on 2" strips right now, and virtually NO red ones, so I'd better do that also..*S* I've been seeing such lovely quilts all around the Mavericks ring and the Stash ring too, wish I was part of that great creations effort. Makes me blue sometimes, this puddling along with a dib and a dab. Guess I need to remember to be grateful that I can see to do some things..*VBS* I think I am going to use the triangles cut off the heartstrings to make some wonky stars. Won't matter there if I get it straight or not...LOL

Ah, Finn ! How many hidden treasures are there in your sewing room ? They're always so pretty, and I'm sure that with this brilliant inspiration of yours, you're going to make us a beauty again !
By the way, Finn, I didn't realize earlier that you had experienced some trouble with your eyes. I'm so sorry ! Hope you're better now !
Hugs & smiles,
NADINE.
Finn, your quilts are just as lovely as the others you see floating around in blog land. I have the same eyes as you, other peoples quilts always look so much nicer than mine. Maybe it is because we see ours through out the whole process instead of just the finished product. We are tired of the quilt by the time it is finished. Have a great day.
I love your bright colours! I love scrap quilts with brights.
Isn't it funny how we always want what someone else has...or in my case, I always want to be making what YOU are making INSTEAD of what I'm making. ROFL I LOVE everything that you've done and shown us, and I wish I could just go CUT AND SEW without trying to decide if it should be in this pattern or that pattern...or maybe I should be doing applique, or, or, or ..... ROFL I do love these blocks that you've posted today! :) And I hope your eye is improving! Hugs!
we all feel blue at times... Hope making the hourglass blocks and whipping up a couple of tops lifts your spirits.
Oh, the 9patches look great with the hourglasses. What do you mean, you wish you were part of the great creations effort? I stop by and envy everything you're making or have made. I am trying to lean more towards the scraps because of the beautiful things you do. Keep on!
by the way, I see that Peanuts fabric again! Too cute!
Aren't 9 patches terrific? You can just do so much with them.
I hope you find some more red strips around -- one of my biggest fears is that we will run out of red fabric *s* What if they stop making it? It is my 'duty' to always buy red so I'll never run out.
Hugs,
Libby
My word, girl, you ARE part of the creative bunch in Blogland! I check you our frequently to see what new you are doing.
I'm sorry for your eye troubles, and am wishing solution to this nasty business.
And yes, we all love OTHER people's quilts more than our own. Your strings are just as clever as the next. Please keep posting.
Love the blocks... am thinking I would like to make some of those heartstrings ones... those would be great scrap users! I loved the foundation strippy quilt I did and they kind of remind me of that!
I do hope your eye heals up soon Ms. Finn... I worry about that for you :O)... I want them to get well and stay that way!!
After seeing your 9-patches, that reminded me of a stack I had, and have worked up into a top. I'll be posting it soon -- I also did the hourglass units between the blocks.
I'm amazed that you're doing anything crafty with your eye bugging you... I admire you so much. :)
Nice looking little nine patches too, and I have no doubt that when you get done sewing them all together with your hourglass blocks, you'll have a great scrappy quilt!
Oh Finn - I do so feel for you and the limitations with your eyes - it must be so frustrating to want to get on with things and have to overcome this type of obstacle. I hope they get better real soon :o)
I think we all feel like that now and again but who among us judges other bloggers by the amount of work they complete and how fast? None of us I'm sure. I like blogs for ideas - and yours is full of 'em. Besides which, you always seem to be able to 'pull' out something that you've made to show us. I think you must have a magic bottomless cupboard.
Your hourglass blocks and the 9-patches look great together, Finn.
Can't wait to see your wonky stars shining soon!
And remember...your *dib and dab* in a day are more than some accomplish in a lifetime!
I say do as much as you can and have fun. When it is no longer fun, walk away until you miss it.
Hope your feel better soon!
