New Beginnings.....

which includes the newest rug I am working on in the evening. Jean and I figured out a way to make a rectangle shape using double crochet. Which is nice because you only incread at the corners.
I have been working on a couple more doll quilts for the day care. The one at the left are 3" blocks that I did in a paper piecing class 101...pretty silly things. A couple of borders now and those are outta here! The second one is just left over 4 patches and the beginnings of borders. Having to clean and de-clutter before the inspection kind of ruined my sewing plans this week.
Now that it's over, I can get back to whatever I want to work on. It shouldn't take long to finish up these two and pass them along. The kids are still crazy for more dolly quilts, so what the heck?? I'm having fun! And getting alot of odd and ends of orphan blocks used. I'm off to a birthday party this afternoon, Jean's grandson is turning 4...*VBS* Should be fun!

I love the rug. How ingenious to make it rectangular and increase only at the corners. Nice and easy!

the rug will be great. I've done crochet pillow tops that way -- my biggest problem is moving the marker from row to row so I can "find" the corner :-)

About your doll quilts...the letter of the week this week in our kindergarten was "q" for quilt. Most of the kids didn't know what that was, so our kindergarten teacher brought in her dolly quilt from (ahem) a few years back. Her grandmother had made it for her using fabrics from dresses she had made. It looked just like your second picture, only very well loved. The kids were entranced.

If I haven't said it before, I love the dolly quilts.

That rug looks great and what an ingenious way to get the shape you want. Make sure you show a pic of the rug in place once it's finished.

Finn, I think it's great you are making all the dolly quilts! I especially like this new i-spy one and the rug is super. Wish I knew how to crochet! :(

All three pieces are beautiful Finn. I am especially enthralled by the rug, because I don't know how to make that. It is so sweet of you to make doll quilts. A great way to get rid of scraps and orphan blocks, and make many little hearts happy.

congrats on finishing lots of ufos so far Finn and it's great to turn them into small projects like dollie quilts delighting the children at daycare-such a win-win situation. The newest rug is surely fabulous!
And, I need one for the kitchen...so maybe this will be the year I give in to this appealing project! hugs

you are really making progress on those dolly quilts. I like the rectangular shape of the rug too. Good that you and Jean could put your heads together and figure out how to accomplish that.

Good to see that the camera turned up---we quilters HAVE to have a camera!! And if we are bloggers, a digital one, as you know.

I need to get out and take a pic of the Bradford pears--they have really opened up in the past day. It hit 70 and lots of sunlight so I guess spring is officially here in my little corner of the world.
