The thrift store tag said 'a doll from Saudi Arabia'. Who know? Maybe something made for tourists? It certainly is made of bits and pieces...wool, suede, upholstery and regular cottons. Some buttons are old, some new. It is machine stitched, but hand embellished, like a crazy quilt. I don't think that it was cut from crazy quilt...just a hunch. I snapped a picture of the
backing also. It cost me a ridicilous .99 to bring it home....I was happy!
And altho I'm not sewing quilts at the moment(life and the sewing studio on the front burner) I am in the process of making a rug for my oldest DD's screened-in porch. She recently painted the floor burgandy, and requested a rug,even one of my scrappy ones was o.k.(her words, not mine) LOL...
So I stopped at our hardware store and grabbed a couple of paint samples and keep them handy as I select colors to sew together. I'm headed to about 36", I think I'm about 15" right now. It's a slow go, as I hand select the strips to conform to a burgandy, but autumn tones, theme.I'm off to lunch shortly with my old friend Shorty, we'll hit the thrift store after lunch and have a good old time. Then home again,with the possibility of a visiting son for supper. Their young puppy had to be put down on Tuesday for a horific intestional problem, and he's not quite as o.k. as he should be, a little Mom-time seems to be needed. It'a a cool, rainy day in my part of WI, and just maybe I'll have time to make a batch of cookies this afternoon....*VBS*

So sad about the puppy, but it is nice to know, mother's comfort still works wonders.
My beloved daughter paid me such a compliment- she told me if she talks to me it always lifts her day. I felt so humble.

Good that you're near enough to be able to give him that 'mum' time. That little doll is just great - you know children will play with anything (think of the cardboard boxes the toys come in at Christmas) and in another type of world where children don't have banks of Barbies, PowerRangers etc etc etc a child would treasure their one toy - there's something to be said for returning to simpler times - we are such a wasteful consumer society - I'll bet that doll was cherished by someone somewhere and now it will be again! Well done for rescuing it :o)
I am making myself a 'things that go bump' doll...immediately! And a quirky one, and one to keep nursing home negativities out of my home, and one to bless all who enter my home, and one to .........Gosh, Finn! What have you started??????

That doll is odd, I've never seen one similar.
How is the sewing room progress/ Looks similar to mine...too many fingers in too many pots that are not my own!

I really am going to make one of those rag rugs! Now that I have mastered a Granny Square Afghan I am feeling braver with the crochet thing! Love the colors in this one!!!!!!
