On Keeping up Appearances.....?

Our soggy, wet, and cold rainy week has moved on eastward...sorry Katie and Sue! Yesterday dawned bright and beautiful, clear and cool..a perfect September day!!
Or so you would think while looking at my quiet little special place on the patio....but appearances can be deceiving..*G*
If you turn around from behind the camera.....this is what is happening just across the street from me. Our little 16 unit complex is being "re-drain tiled" And what a messy bunch they are. Some of us(luckly NOT me) have the 'burrow' going right across their blacktop driveways. They have to park over in my part of the complex, just to have a place to park. No putting the car in the garage this week! And in addition to the hulla-a-lou outside, DS#3 came to see me yesterday.
He works 4 ten hour days and has F,S,S off every week. Sitation normal: he arrived along with the noon whistle....LOL His ilttle family is off camping this weekend, so Grandma had gotten a special treat for his oldest son(see Aug.13th post for pic of the birthday boy!) to share with cousins. And I decided to make each of the boys a new special pillowcase just for this camping trip!! This is DD#3 being clever as he holds it up for me...LOLAnd of course each must be "different". He co-operated a bit more on the second picture. The cases are Halloween fabric from 2 or 3 years ago....lots of pictures to see and words to practice reading! DS was put to work vacuuming out my car, while I sewed, and doing a few other things that needed doing..*VBS* I'm taking lessons(from Jean) on 'being a bossy Mom'.....a whole new concept for DS#3....LOL, but he survived it quite nicely. Did I mention he's the youngest of 5???? *VBG*

Fun fabric choices for camping pillow cases. Great idea I'm going to have to tuck away in my head for the future.

Too cute for words, alone.....both the pillowcases and the son. Yeah, yeah, we can still see you hiding behind there. Even if she's a true mind speaker, you're still so very lucky to have such a great mom in your life ;) I really like the idea, Finn, of prints with words to practice reading...I'm keeping that one in my idea book, for sure!

Oh yes, we got the week's worth of stormy weather. Today is Sunday and sun finally shinning. Hurrah! It always takes a mess to make progress. I sure know it this year with my house repairs. That rainly weather must have made the mud good and googie. :) I so love that star fabric in the pillowcase. Have a nice sewing day. Hugs, Katie

Those pillow cases are fun! And even if he is camera shy -- a visit is worth more than any photo!

clever grandma you! what a handsome son too-and good to boss a bit and get some help out of the visit. I am sure those cases will be a hit at the camping event.

Nothing like a special treat from Grandma to make a camp out even more memorable.
Hopefully with your recent rain it will help keep the dust down from the construction across the street.

We lived 5 miles from town but could hear the whistle when the time was right. My kids know the whistle here in Chicago only as the emergency siren, tested the first Tuesday of the month. So, when we are visiting my parents (in town now) the 0700, 1200, 6pm, and 9pm whistles get a lot of attention.

Make that
"could hear the whistle when the wind was right"
I need to be a better proofreader.
