Sunday Morning sidewalks....

...but the sidewalks end 2 miles before you get to my house *VBS* That's ok tho...because WI Hwy 29 runs past the complex. I woke up to some interesting things this morning. One of them was daylight! The other was an elusive dream about childhood and candy. Does that ever happen to you? Just at the very end of the dream, as I was resisting Ebby's urgent 'messages' for food, into my mind popped a "Sugar Daddy". Is that the right name? It was an all day sucker, wrapped in bright yellow waxy paper...I think the lettering was red. Inside, on the very white stick was an ovalish shaped sucker that tasted something like caramel and something like toffee. It was fairly hard until you sucked or chewed on it and then it gradually softened. It was incredibly sticky and sweet. So I'm now scratching my head...was it a Sugar Daddy sucker or was it Sugar Babies???Or maybe the Sugar Babies were a spin off and came in a yellow bag?? Anybody remember those? Maybe they still exist today, I'll have to look. These are my "10 minutes before 7 a.m." pictures. The sun comes earlier now, and,on the days we actually SEE the sun, it looks like this looking east from my windows. My world cast in a peachy, pinkish glow warming to the rising of the sun. It isn't up YET in these pictures, but coming fast.
The sunday morning sidewalks is in reference to a song with that lyric...not sure what it's called, maybe Sunday Morning Coming Down?? I hear the melody in my head but don't know the words.
And for some glorious color, on these still-slightly bland days of March, summer sunshine from our local Farmer's Market(last summer).
The 'pint size pleasure' grandsons are coming for a visit this afternoon, and I'm "all a-twitter" as the old saying goes *VBS* I haven't seem them since New Years Day and I'm looking forward to all the things they will tell and show me. Their Daddy(and his partner) moved to the city where the boys live, over the weekend. That means he will have many more chances to see them(on occasion) after school or here and there as time and work schedules permit. He was only 25 miles away previously, but with gas running as high as it is, the move was an excellent idea. His new job is in their home town.
There's nothing quilty today...I'm still in the depths of scrap cutting but I'm ready to take a break from that hour a day, and sew again. Even when it's UFO's, sewing is good!!! Hope you all are having some sunshine on your shoulder on this sunny Sunday morning *VBS*

Sugar Daddy was my favorite sucker... and caramel is still a fave of mine today. You are right: the Sugar Daddy was the sucker and the Sugar Babies are the nugget type in a bag. I still see Sugar Babies at the video store, but haven't seen the sucker in years.

Congratulations on the new grandbaby!

And lastly, I am in *love* with the blocks you posted on Thursday.

How I feel for all you folks with so much snow still on the ground! We had a bit of sunshine yesterday ourselves - what a treat!

I just finished a crazy quilt out of orphan blocks that were given to me. I'll be posting it soon on my blog. If you want to use it on the Orphan Train feel free to steal it!

I remember the Sugar Daddy would stick to your molars so that it seemed they would pry out all your fillings. Thanks for the memory. I can recall that taste vividly.

Kris Kristofferson did sing that Sunday Morning Coming Down. It brought back a flood of memories.
Dont know the candy of which you speak. I suppose we didnt have it in New Zealand.
As your days will lengthen, ours will shorten.

You have a very good memory - you are right on with both the Sugar Babies and the Sugar Daddy. I bought the second only once - too big a mess for me - but loved the Babies! There was only one thing wrong with them - they weren't chocolate!

Wow, Finn, first the crayon thing and now the song and the candy! You sure do know how to put a gal in the "way back then"! I loved Sugar Babies when I used to go to the Sat after noon movies.......because if you were really careful, they lasted a long time! Might explain my many trips to the dentist over the years too! LOl

Oh Finn, you are such a memory keeper! I've been re-reading all of my Eckhard Tolle books since "The New Earth' craze hit the newswaves and re-focusing on living in the "now". Then one comment from my dear Finn and I am 10 years old again, buying my Sugar Daddy lolly for the 5 cents I use to clutch in my sweaty little mittened hand and totally transported to the delights of childhood and growin up in my tiny little Douglas Island in Alaska. I can see that little Michele, just what she wore and how exciting it was to even have nickel to call my own. But the taste...oh, that taste! I bought the 'newer version' of a Sugar Daddy years ago....didn't even come close to the flavor of those from days gone by. Maybe that's why we need 'memory keeper's like you, around ;)

Well, you've hit the nail on the head twice! Sugar Daddy's and Sugar Babies are both right! I remember enjoying them a lot when I was a kid! You could suck on the sucker and clench your teeth an pull that thing really long and wrap it around and around. Those were the days b/4 we were old enough to pay taxes...
You inspire me to use up my scraps! Thanks. Jean
