Friday at Finn's House....

is quiet after a week of hustle-bustle birthday doings *VBS* And I am more than ready for the quietness of my daily life. I've enjoyed all the birthday gifts and luncheons and suppers, but enough now. Time to get back to work. I have no new quilt pictures, and my UFOs sit cold and silent waiting for my return. At the top of my "to-do" list, 2 more Q4L kids. I promised Clare two more by the end of the year. I'm all ready to tie the first one and get it bound over the weekend. Hopefully I can mail it out next week.
And what would autumn be without fresh apples from the orchard? Being born and raised in the midst of apple country, I do love my apples *VBS*
One of the highlights of this past week was the visit from DGS#10. He's 8 months now and has just mastered crawling, and boy, oh boy, can he move!!! He laughs outloud and thought that playing peek-a-boo with Gram was just too-too funny. He had all of us cracking up with his laughing. It was quite infectious!
And for last, a true October quilt. Vintage 1920-1940's, I believe. I purchased it quite a few years back. The stitching is quite lovely, as is the quilting. I'm quite sure it's a "quilt kit" composed of blocks to be appliqued with the poppies and then sewn together and quilted. Its never been washed and you can still see faint pencil lines from the quilting. I know it's not everyones cup of tea, the orange and all, but I love it! I'll be back soon, with new quilt pictures(I hope!) How is everyone coming on their UFO challenges? The potential of finishing over 300 UFO is just awesome!!!!

Orange has never been a favorite color of mine, but who wouldn't admire such a beautiful quilt? I think it's very pretty. Amazing that it is so well preserved. Thanks for showing pics.

The poppy quilt is a true treasure. Imagine all the work that went into it. The picture of the apples was yummy. Apple pie or apple sauce or just eat them. Goodness any way you use them. Cute picture of the budding pianist. Another fun read!

To paraphrase a saying about wearing color to about using color: "If you want to be noticed, use red; If you want to be remembered, use orange". I think that says it all. Orange, like yellow or lime green, are colors that people either love or hate in quilts, but you sure do remember them afterwards! I love this quilt and it's perfect for October and for the energy of creativity. Love your UFO Challenge, Finn. After more than a month in Alaska and only lots and lots of hard work and care taking, I could have used a catalyst to get me out of my bedraggled, little, limp, scrappy, self at the bottom of the scrap bag and gotten me hopping back onto the sewing table;) I know you've helped a lot of gals to get going on old projects again! Surely do admire all the lovely work you ladies are doing... and finishing!! Happy belated, Finn. Thought of you as soon as October rolled around and Sometimes a Great Notion is now residing (in your honor, and with my gratitude) on my wooden rocker in my Oregon l.r. Sounds likeyour birthday was filled with love....musically, and otherwise! Darling, darling baby boy!

Mmmmmm apples... 8-)
Lovely vintage quilt Finn! 8-)
DGS#10 looks like he had a ball with the piano as well as Grandma Peek-a Boo. 8-)
I had been working on some new projects, but this past Wednesday I started in on another UFO that hadn't even been started yet, but was weighing on me. 3-4 years ago I had bought a sweatshirt and some fabric to make a sweatshirt jacket for my mother. Every once in a while she would ask about it. Well, Wednesday morning she mentioned it again, and I thought "best get it done, and the mother satisfied, and the sooner the better!" Thus I thought that could be included in the challenge, and I will be doing a tutorial of it... 8-)
Happy stitchings!

I love the belly laughs that little ones have! The orange poppy quilt is fabulous, I have a couple of kit quilts that I have picked up but not a poppy one. I wear orange -- how's THAT for a fashion statement?

Is there anything that can warm the heart faster than the laughter of a baby? What sweet and precious memories for you both *s*

Finn: I haven't officially signed up for your UFO Challenge. However, I have been drawing on the enthusiasm of the others in the group to keep me focused on my very, very, very old UFO. I am trying to finish off my husband's fish quilt. The determination of the others in the group is keeping me focused on the finish!

the orange kit is quite charming, but the #10 grand is quite adorable-love those belly laughs.
I love seeing how you bind your quilts-we all learn different ways and it's good to know another. I think your birthday should go all month! I too have that Gee's book and it is quite inspiring and wonderful to read through. hope you get to play a lot today and the rest of your birthday month.
