Little Boo says "Happy October", am I early for treats? Oh bother, just give me some anyway *VBS* Did you miss me? I've been gone since last October, but I'm back!
And a post-a-note for Ms. Ebby...She's just past her 2 year anniversary and going strong. She's fat(reasonably) and sassy(unreasonable) and ruling everything and eceryone around her!
And a footnote to yesterdays post, on binding that I did for Amy of Calico Cat, I don't think there is any ONE way that is right vs. another. Each of us can decide what works best for the particular quilt we are dealing with, and act accordingly. As with quilting, hoop or not hoop, there are as many ways to do things as there are people to come up with them. A reader asked about bias binding or straight strips. I use straight strips. I have found that bias is really only needed if the edge you are binding is curved. It will, however, give you the most amount of binding from the fabric used. You get an amazing amount of binding from a very smallish square when you make bias binding. If you come across a conversion card, grab it! I have one from several years back. It tells you exactly how big a square you need for a specific amount of binding inches. You can figure that by measuring your quilt. If it is a 51" square quilt you will basically need 204" of binding. It's that simple.

Cute Boo! 8-)
I use bias binding all the time. A teacher once told me that when you use bias binding on a quilt that is loved and used a lot, if it starts to "fray" in one area from wear, it doesn't run down the whole binding, as it would on binding done on the straight of grain, it just stays in the one area and is easily fixed. Just me 2 bits that I have learned on that... 8-)
I have a link to a chart for bias binding on the sidebar of my blog if anyone is interested in obtaining it. I tried printing it, but it would not allow me to, thus I save the link... 8-)
Happy stitching!
Thank you again for the info, Finn.

I love 1 1/2" binding . . . I understand the thought behind double fold binding, but for the most part I would say today's quilts are not subjected to the same harsh use conditions of our prairie predecessors. So with 1 1/2" strips, I can save my fabrics for other projects. And like Mary Ellen Hopkins says - these are the quilts I'm making for people I know and love right now. If it wears out and I still know and LOVE you . . . I'll make you another *s*
Boo was a treat. Don't you just love Halloween.
I just love your Boo bear all dressed up for trick or treating.
Cute Boo!
Ebby does look magnificently healthy & happy, too.
