Some good news to share...

Baby A seems to be holding her own. It's been a very bumpy ride since last week, but we are making headway. The medication that the University drs. felt might work, didn't. On to plan B, no luck there either, but they still weren't willing to do a liver biopsy if another avenue might work. The light at the end of the trouble seemed to come from new blood work. Apparently she has a genetic condition that doesn't allow her to process the proteins found in milk. A switch to a synthetic product was made and she is keeping it down. So far, so good. What strikes this old granny so funny is that last week, on the first night of this scare, I suggest she might not be a "milk" baby. That she might need soy or goat milk or another substitute. Which, of course I would have tried long ago. So many children are lactose intolerant these days, why not consider that?? Finally, they did and we are keeping out fingers crossed and waiting for a weight gain. Luckily she began life at nearly 8 pounds and had a little to sustain her. Thank you very much for all the prayers, petitions and good wishes. I'm sure they went from your lips to God's ear and He smiled on us. Big hugs, Finn

Finn! This is what happened to my baby brother. I just remembered that. I was 14 when it all happened so I don't recall the details but he was switched to Goats Milk and things got better. Anyway, this is about Baby and not my brother. I'm happy for the improvement and I smiled knowing Gma knows best all along...

I'm so glad she is doing better. I think more dr's should listen to intuition.

I'm so glad she is doing better. I was one of those babies too. I can only 'do' non-fat' dairy and not a whole lot of it. I don't mind, tho, 'cause a lot of the fattening stuff is dairy.

Great news that the baby is doing better. I am glad it was something "simple" that can be fixed.

So glad to hear she is doing better and I'm glad they held off on the biopsy until they tried less drastic things! I meant to comment when you first posted about her hospitalization but she has been in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be.

Hooray for Baby A. Sometimes I think we put too much faith in medical science and not enough in good old fashioned common sense.

Thank heavens! God made grandmas for a reason -- now we just need to get others to listen to us. Prayers continue for Baby A to thrive.

That's good news to read. Will keep her in my prayers. I wasn't a milk baby either. The inconveniences of that will be small in her life once she gets over this initial episode.

Such wonderful news!

Yeah! My Nana was allergic to milk and handed that down to 3 of my siblings. Pin-pointing the problem is the biggest issue... now Baby A can get the foods she needs to grow & thrive! Great news!
Cheers! Evelyn
