Progress Report...

Beautiful September weather in WI *VBS* BUT...frost warnings tonight for the northern regions of MN and WI. Mother Nature is having things HER way this year. This is the project in progress. I've had the froggie flannel for awhile. It keeps getting set aside, as it's barely 40" wide. I love that DD#1 picks up flannel at JoAnne's, but she's still operating under the assumption that a backing is 44" X 54". And she's right. That's the size crib quilts I make. Unfortunately, flannel is no longer 45" wide. So... I decided to make a quilt to fit the flannel, rather than the flannel to fit the quilt. *VBS* This version of Gypsy Quilter's Kitchen Sink is all scrappy, scrappy yellows. There is no rhyme or reason in the piecing. I didn't specifically keep the 4 patches-2 light/ 2 dark. I have the blocks made and just need time to lay them out and join them up!
And I got busy right away last week and found binding for this Purple Paisley piece. I was thinking "orange" or orange and purple.
When I dug into the 1.5" strip bin, this strange red/green/purple/orange Christmas fabric caught my eye. I rather like the contrast of the dark binding against the light lattice. And dig that crazy vintage type backing....LOL. Yup, donations and stash!
I've found a backing for the Barbie quilt top, and that one will get pinned and quilted this week(I hope!)

I'm getting hooked on dark bindings, they just seem to "frame" the quilt so well.

And that yellow splash of sunshine is gorgeous! I love that flannel! I just might have to go to JoAnns to find some for my DGD's quilt backing!

Send the frost to SE Wisconsin....so it'll kill off the ragweed! I love this time of year, except for the allergies! :0(

Oh how I love how you do your quilts. Great job friend. I love the colors in the first one. C would love the second one, she is a purple/paisley kinda gal. Hope you don't get frost tonight. It's been close here, although none yet. Hugs

Oh no, don't tell me fabric along with everything else is shrinking too! That's a perfect backing for the second quilt. Don't you love it when you can use your stash?

That yellow brought to mind 2 songs: I Can See Clearly Now with the lyrics 'bright sunshiny day' and the other song is, of course, You Are My Sunshine. I have songs and lyrics just pouring out of my head lately. That quilt should bring a smile to any child's face.

Sure like your scrappy mile a minute quilt! Your backing choice is just right. YOur grand baby picture is so cute!

It's pretty frustrating that fabrics are not as wide as they used to be. Not just flannels either. On the other hand, I have some truly vintage yardage that's only 36" wide!

You are amazing! How do you get so much done? I also like the dark binding with the light sashing.

I didn't realize that flannel got smaller! I'll have to be measuring more carefully. I love the binding on that quilt.

That yellow quilt will be a real ray of sunshine. I like your idea about making a quilt to fit your backing fabric.

Hi there! I love the Purple Paisley piece! Playing with scraps is a favourite of this grandma too, they are so bright and happy:-).
I'll be back to check on your progress with the Orphan train...
