Have you ever wondered.....

about the quilts you make and the people they go to, who aren't family? Or maybe even if they ARE family. Did they like the quilt? Did it make them happy? Will they use it? Does it even matter that I made it and gave it to them as a gift? And then, out of a clear blue sky on a frigid day in January, you open an email, and you have an answer *VBS*
The little gal in the picture is Maddie. She's a senior this year, and yes, I know, she looks waaaay too young to be a senior. The quilt is question is one I made for her nearly 18 years ago, when she was born. Recently she asked her mom if it could be sewed?, fixed in some way? Her mom snapped the picture and sent it to my DD#1, who had gifted the gift to Maddie. All I can do is shake my head in wonder, and smile with my heart. The quilt was loved. And that's the rest of the story.

Wonderful story...you know that quilt has been used and washed many times...the love you put into it was what made it last this long.

Special part of this story (to me, anyway) is the fact you got a follow up 18 years later.

Stay warm.

What a cool story. I have made a lot of quilts for my DIL to give to friends. She often tells me about how the quilt was particularly special for the baby. One of her friends adopted a baby from Africa. I made a quilt with zoo animals on the back. The social worker that helped them chose the quilt to help the baby with the transition.

Finn! A great story!
This really helps me get back and work more on "give away" quilts. It may be that some of them are never loved this much, or this LONG, but our making them is "warming" to the receiver, evn if they are not used for long.

Doesn't that make it all worthwhile! And bless Maddie for telling you all these years later how much that quilt has meant to her.

Isn't it wonderful to know your gift has been so well loved? Do you suppose Maddie will get a new quilt for graduation *s*

Finn,
How terrific that your quilt was so loved- what more could one wish for?
There is a great book called "Something from Nothing" by Phoebe Gilman ( its a children's story) The boy kept asking his grandmother( I believe it is his grandma) to repair and rescue pieces of his quilt- The quilt becomes various things when it gets too tatty to be a blanket ( a vest and a hankerchief) Its a lovely story and speaks about the love the child has for his quilt.
Thanks for sharing your lovely story. It made my day..
Warmest regards,
Anna
