A piece from my scrapbag..
As I was sizing up things on my Blogger template this evening, I noticed that yesterday was an milestone, of sorts..*S* The post regarding the history of quilts was number 500 for me..*VBS* I began this blog on or about the 13th of July, 2005. One wonders if that is a TOTAL count, or merely a count of the existing enteries? I have been known to delete a few...LOL. Anyway, my gift to you today is a view of these lovely young quilters doing something that is relative foreign to most of us, quilting at a common frame. a lovely photo indeed...500 is surely a big milestone. I know groups around here that still gather around a frame...so surely they must in your neck of the woods too. hugs
500! Surely there is a quilting/blogging award for that? Say 100 is a yard of batik, 200 a pack of hand dyed fat quarters, 300 ......
Of course chocolate has to fit in there somewhere! (I treat myself to Godiva each time I put a sleeve on...hate sleeves!)

In Pennsylvania they still do stitching like that. In the Amish part around Lancaster, I saw women doing quilting around a frame when we visited a few years ago. They were having a local fair and the ladies were around a huge frame. They moved so fast and the older ones never even looked at their hands anymore. They just talked and stitched..tiny stitches too.
How nice to have shared 500 or more thoughts with all of us! Hope you feel all the hugs coming to you.
I always wonder, when I see pictures like this, if these women in old age stand with one shoulder drooped lower than the other. Funny what we think of, eh?

How fun seeing the mennonite girls quilting. We used to have once a month sewing and often everyone worked on one quilt.
It is still done and still enjoyed !

love the photo. Reminds me of visiting a friend of mine when I was young and seeing her livingroom filled with a quilting frame hanging from the ceiling and her mother and friends quilting. Thanks for stopping by the homestead. Things are always cooking over there. *grin*
I hear stories about the quilting frame dropped down from the ceiling all the time when people hear I am a quilter--they remember when their grannies or aunties used to do it that way. Incongrous to them to see a younger person cranking out machine done tops for kids.
Still, I know that group raffle quilts are often put in the frame and folks gather round. In my old stomping grounds in Bloomington-Normal, IL our guild did and I know they do here too. Not dressed like that though. I still cannot hand quilt left to right in a frame. Used to sit opposite a left hander though and we would swap places and I would do what she couldn't and she would do mine, LOL.
I love hand quilting and I have a hand quilting frame . . that's about as far as it goes. Thanks for the picture.
