This is the one that I am thinking of piecing by hand in the evenings. I'm kind of in the mood for a "little quilt", and this one qualifies..*S* The block of Dutman finishea at 5".. This book is old enough to give you cardboard templates to cut out, see the size of the template pieces indicated at the bottom right? The quilt is 14" X 18". I probably will either keep it at 4 complete squares of go up to 9. I don't like the half block "thingy".

I've be thinking about doing a mini lately. I've only done lap or larger size for so long I think a small project is due. And I'm ready to change out some of the wall-hangings at work so I think I'll do a few minis I can work on while relaxing in my chair in the evenings. I like the little geese you're thinking about but I agree I don't like the half blocks either. Guess that's why she's the ultimate quilt maverick and I'm not. LOL!
I don't like the half block thing either. I'd do 6 or 9!
On that quilt, I don't care for the 1/2 block either... I have seen some quilts where a 1/2 block used to offset rows in nice....
I don't like it either because it doesn't look finished--now if they had done it on both ends that way, maybe.
Have fun with it---I might have that same book but would have to dig around a bit.
I like Dutchman's Puzzle but guess what? I don't like the half blocks either - especially in such a small quilt.
wow!!! i wouldn't attempt to piece that in a million years. way too tiny. but i do agree i don't like the half block. i think four would be perfect. it is nice to have hand work to do while watching tv but i would need my MAGNIFYING Glasses and bifocals to do those after 7 pm.
keep us posted!!!
I have the book too. and I agree this project is great to do by hand.. I am looking forward to the result
I made a scrappy quilt once with this block! Let me go see if I can find a picture and share it!
