Tumbleweed? Last Roundup?...I know no name for this block. It's one I saw as part of a quilt at a quilt show. I think it was paired with a 16 patch or sawtooth star. I see it as another great way to use up odds and ends. Each of the sections makes a 4.5" square, and you join up 4 for those for the block. Pretty darn simple. I can see this one as a boy's quilt, no need for lattice unless desired.
I re-checked on Laura's blog, and what she is showing is a stretched star ala Bonnie, with freeform words, ala Tonya..it's a great quilt!!
And I'm sorry to say, but I forgot Fiona at http://scraps-in-progress.blogspot.com/ She has her quilt made from the Depression block all cut for, and is sewing. It's a great looking quilt, with lights that appear pinkish or lavender-blue. Very soft looking..*VBS* Sorry Fiona...now I GOTTA get busy!!

This is a great block and I don't think I have ever seen it before. If it exict LindaJ will help you out with a name!! Otherwise NAME it and call it your own. It makes a great moving swishy pinwheel sort of thing that is perfect for using scraps of any sizes really!

You've got a neat cowboy quilt started!

Yep, Judy, I will give it a shot anyway! LOL, Try Scrap Zigzag #1334 from KC Star 1955. BUT I think there is one like it on Quilter's Cache because I printed one off for my files thinking it might be a good one for a BOM block for the Bama Belles. Your smaller triangle may be a slightly different position though---but compare it with this

This looks like the useful sort of block that looks more complicated than it actually is when you see it made up into a quilt - I'm putting it on my 'to do' list for that reason. Long may the scrappy craze continue.

What do you mean get busy, looks as if you already have been busy. I checked the block at cache cow, I like your placement better. Show us the completed cowboy quilt. Happy Quilting.

I used this block a few years ago from the book: More Quilts for Baby by Ursula Reikes. I used a focus fabric of ladybugs...if I can find a photo of it, I will post it over at my blog Finn. It is a great block for sure! She just called it a Pinwheel Block.

by the way, instead of all the small squares- the block I referred to used a six inch center square....so you could feature a fabric or fussy cut something there.

I may try this for my next AmHero quilt. I have tons of HSTs from other projects. This could be the way to use them that I've been hoping to find!
